World of Goo
« on: December 09, 2008, 12:35:02 am »
I don't have much time for video games lately, but I actually played one through to the end recently: World of Goo.  It's definitely reminiscent of Lemmings, if you remember that game, in that you tell some of the little guys (in this case, "Goo Balls") to make an exit for the rest of the little guys.  The Goo Balls can be used to make erector sets, bridges, towers, ropes, strings of firecrackers, etc.  It's a physics simulator with a rather hip and ironic sensibility.

In contrast with the big blockbuster releases, there were pretty much just two guys working on WoG.  It works, though.  And it works, because the gameplay is good!  I got the Wii version for $15; there are Mac and PC versions as well.

This sounds like a game I could really get into, if only I had a life. The trouble with lemmings is that I wasn't disciplined enough for it at the time, I'd get more out of such a game if I played it now.

Can you make the goo balls explode like you could the lemmings? ;D Call me cruel, but I used to love doing that.

There are different types of goo balls.  Some of them do indeed explode if exposed to flame.

Now you're scaring me.  Keeping track of me, are you?  Add "A filthy habit." to the top of your list.  And yes, I'm having a bit of trouble settling on anything in that spot lately.  The filthy habit one and the centaur one lasted a long time, but none of the new ones seem to work out very well.

Way to go, Eth.  You forced me to change my signature and now the words "change" and "world" have no more meaning to me after reading/revising the damn things so many times  :(

I did make myself want to see the movie, though.  I'm still laughing every time I read the "tag line" at the bottom... I may very well drive myself insane by contemplating it too much.

Now you're scaring me.
Wasn't I already scaring people with my hideous dark side?
Keeping track of me, are you?
Just take it as a compliment that, when I noticed it changing so quickly, I thought there might be some kind of joke brewing :D

Nah, I'm afraid that I don't have anything brewing for the SCDB at the moment.  I was just invited to be a "Lexicanium" over at the Bolter and Chainsword, which is sort of like being a junior magazine editor.  It's the first time I was ever handed any sort of responsibility on an online forum, so I think I ought to, y'know, sink some energy in over there.

Though, come to think of it, I have been seriously considering doing a Star Control webcomic.  I have several strips roughed out already.  We'll see how I feel about when I've graduated (in about four months).
