We've got our first gig ever!

I am very excited about this, and I really wanted to share this with all of you.

Our metal band Ni is having it's first gig ever begin May! We went over to a local punk/alternative bar yesterday after having done some rehearsing and our drummer, who's also more or less our producer/manager, struck up a conversation with the owner and managed to get us plugged! So Thursday, May 7th, we're having our first gig with the band!

As I mentioned, I'm really excited about this! I'm also freaking out a little... we need to do some practising and we still have lyrics to write for a few songs... but our current track record has been pretty impressive (4 complete songs in 6 rehearsals) so I'm not worried too much.

We don't have any music on the myspace just yet, but our intention is to have a demo done by the time we perform. Yay us!

Hey, that's really great! congratulations on scoring a gig, and lets hope this is the start of an amazing musical career! Have you been in a band long? I recall you mentioning it a while back (well a year or so) when we were talking about myspace, but not before that. Is this something you found through school, or just some friends?


Anyway, be sure to let us know how it goes and post some music. I'm not too hot on metal myself, but I'll give it a try.

So did you have your gig already? And if you did, how did it go?

Well it's this Thursday and for us Dutchmen that means in about 20 hours we get to perform.

I'm really excited, and pretty nervous about how things will work out. I've been having "we totally screw up" dreams a few times this week already and I'm meticulously going over all the riffs to make sure I know them and can play them properly. I guess that means we might do well that faithful night.

Anyway, I'll be sure to let everyone knows how it went, and if all goes well we'll have one track on the myspace by the end of the gig... but that's not sure yet, so don't hold your breath

We did it! We played our first gig!

I was really nervous the first 2 songs or so, I was shaking a bit and couldn't look up from my guitar much. As the gig went on I relaxed a little and actually had a good time! We played pretty well (considering it's a first gig and all, because we messed up quite a few times) and everyone there (roughly 20-40 people) where really enthousiastic about it afterwards!

Note that this includes both our friends, random passers-by, metal fans and non-metal fans.

Really happy with how all of it went. We gotta do this again sometime soon!

Congratulations!  If the audience enjoyed it, then you did a good job.  I've made all sorts of minor errors in various performances over the years; people rarely notice.

Glad to hear that it went well. So I presume there's going to be a lot more playing in front of crowds in the future?

That's the plan! We're trying to find some more gigs now, and we might have found a little festival somewhere mid-June that's still looking for bands. Might be really cool doing festivals, I know I enjoy going to them

So how is the musical career going? have you found any more gigs for the summer? How's that festival working out? Playing at a place like that will certainly give you some more visibility!

Well we've been looking a bit, got a gig offer as well but that didn't turn out so great so we might not even do it... things have been a little low-key lately as our other Guitarist was in England for a bit. He's back now so we're getting back to things. We might look into hooking up with a booking agency (even a small, independent one) to get some gigs that are out of our scope atm. We've got our contacts, and our drummer knows the scene quite well but we all have lives and can't go look for gigs 24/7.
