My girlfriend did psychology at school, as a minor. I'd recommend you just find some sort of psychology school book, they are usually comprehensive and interesting. But they tend to cost a buttload.

I think I'm becoming too posh for libraries. I used to go to the library a lot, but nowadays I just buy any old book as a paperback instead. I like the touch and feel of them, and I like owning them and having them in the shelf. I'm so bourgeois it makes me sick.

Of course, I still go to the library to read all sorts of newsletters and stuff, so maybe there is hope yet. Oh, and I can't really fit many more books on 39 m2, so I guess I'll have to abandon my current strategy shortly.

Yeah, space is an issue.  I have seven bookcases.  Many of the books are shelved two or even three deep.  I will probably have to do a purge soon.

After I started moving around a lot, I had to be brutal about which books to keep. So many old favourites, all gone! On the other hand, I did get rid of a lot of embarrassing old shit I'd likely never read again. You also don't notice how heavy the damn things are until you have to move 'em - and international moving rates make it an economic issue, as well.

Heh, I got two or three large crates of books in the attic here as well. We've only got a small attic space, so between that and various outdated appliances, there's really not much space. I hope to be able to have a "study" once we move to a larger place. A room full of books. Now that a desire I wouldn't mind fulfilling.

So I finished my economics book, and moved on to new stuff. I got a book that sounded exciting, about a robbery in the virtual world. Unfortunately it seems that it's also the "near future" with all sorts of annoying extra gadgets. That should teach me to read the jacket blurb.

So what's the title, so we are all suitably forewarned?

I'm onto "Medicinal Natural Products: a Biosynthetic Approach". It's a real page turner...

Recently I flipped through an actual encyclopedia (one of those non-digital ones) and realized how little actual literature I've read. As this encyclopedia isn't in my possession and I don't have access to it anymore I was hoping some of you might shed some light on things I "should definitely have read" so I can pick 'em up at the local library.

Since I estimate you to be them intellectual types an' all... you'd probably know all about that sort of thing ;)

And, to a further extent, Tom Sawyer Detective and Tom Sawyer Abroad by the same author.

Oh, sorry about that, it's called "Halting State". It got better for a while, and had some interesting ideas about managing virtual economies, but then it turned very cloak and dagger, a bit too much for my taste.

So now I reading about refining oil. Exciting.

EDIT: Author was Charles Stross.

Those were fun, but lacked that absolutely savage irony and social commentary of Huck Finn.  I'm not saying "don't read them," but just "don't expect them to mean very much, just to be entertaining."
