Well it *might* be someday, but anyway I have a source for music I can use that's not from mainstream movie soundtracks. If I ever want to get this done I realize that I really can't write a script myself, so I'm hoping somebody can help me with that, basically I'll just put in my 2cents here and there. I could also use some help animating stuff, including characters and such from the SC world. Also few other things I could use,

A model of the precursor vessel
A Hyperspace portal model, possibly animated
perhaps a scene for inside hyperspace?
An avenger model
Somebody talented at hand drawing scenes for use in the intro.

News and Updates / PC Gamer TOP 100
« on: December 27, 2009, 04:02:54 pm »
PC GAMER is making a list of TOP 100 Games of All Time I'll let Anthony @ Star Controller Blog give you the details.

"PC Gamer magazine wants to list the top 100 PC games of all time chosen by readers in their March issue.  Their website for voting lists the Editorial Top 100, which lists Star Control II at #54.

The great thing is that you can select your top 5 games to vote for.  For example, you can choose Star Control at #1 and select 4 other games for the remaining 4 positions.  With the campaign for a new Star Control in progress, it would be great to say that Star Control II is one of the top 100 PC games of all time according to the March 2009 issue of PC Gamer.

The website is at http://www.pcgamertop100.com/"

So what are you waiting for? Go Vote of Star Control of course! Go now the clock is ticking!

Mods, Clones and other Fan Content / 3D Render: Druuge Mauler
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:34:21 pm »
I figured rather then hijack the Sins topic about this I'd start a new topic.

So here's a current render of my new Druuge Mauler Model, with some generic textures.

UPDATE: I curved the "engine" pod a little more and added the cage over the green pod. I also started custom texturing it, the "winglet" on the top of the engine shows this, very quickly done in paint for testing purposes

Update: I changed the cage on the pod and tweaked the overall shape, I also added.. mmm ridges? to the engine. I also tweaked back the glow on the pod to show the shiny surface underneath better

News and Updates / Hyperspace theme on a microKORG
« on: November 19, 2009, 09:29:42 pm »
I recently came across this piece on the "Star Controller" blog, I was so impressed I contacted the author and requested permission to rip the tune. To your benefit he said yes, I pulled it off youtube and clipped it down to just the tune, then compressed it all in to nice mp3.

Pretty amazing given that the author Alex O'Neil says he is playing it by ear.

Head over to the music section to check out the new tune or for the direct link

Update: There were 3 broken links on the Fan Music Page, these have now been fixed .

Off Topic / Anybody else want to put their foot through their computer?
« on: October 16, 2009, 08:19:38 pm »
I've spent way to much money on this new system and I've spent many hours trying to get the damn thing working properly.

For Reference here's my beastie's specs

Zalman GS-1000 (two weeks later they released the "+" model with proper harddrive cooling, ill mod mine to have it)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (from what i understand second best they made at the time)
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz Quad (im told is a really good overclocker)
Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz 3x2GB XMS3 Platinum (not really expensive but wasn't cheap)
Zalman heatpipe cooled 750Watt power supply (modular which is always nice)
Kingston 64GB V Series SSD hard drive (my first SSD)
4x Seagate 500GB 7200 drives (all to be in raid, maybe 6x when done)
2x ATI Radeon 4850's 1GB/512MB Vid Cards (my first crossfire setup, maybe ill upgrade to 5870's in the new year)
Gobs of fans and controllers

Was running windows 7 RC and then took a spare drive out of it and put in my recently acquired PowerMac G5 and boom stopped working, spent the last two days trying to get it to work again to no avail. Downloading the windows 7 enterprise version trial see if maybe it will work. heard the RC build had issues with RAID hardware and my specific motherboard chipset. Bloody annoying considering id wanted to be working on this site for the last two evenings not farting around with all these problems. Probably just buy win7 next week when it comes out either way.

Update: Epic failz. Win7 Enterprise didn't work any better. Looks like I've got bad ram or worse yet a bad motherboard.

Just a few things to look for, currently I'm working on the CSS for our new site adding color here and there and changing fonts and all those fun sort of things.

The team here is working on adding our Fan sections which will include Artwork, models, music and more. Were also adding a new page that will be of interest to all you folks looking for content in your mod, clone or otherwise. Stay tuned for the "resources" page unless we find a better name! As always suggestions are always welcome especially while I'm working on formatting choices for our new pages.

Off Topic / Gratuitous Space Battles
« on: October 02, 2009, 06:21:55 pm »
I don't think this has been mentioned but if not it's pretty niffty looking. There's some videos on youtube to if you care to look.

Quote
Gratuitous Space Battles is a unique strategy game where you play the role of supreme commander of a vast fleets of spaceships, battling against AI controlled or player-designed enemy fleets. GSB is not a conventional strategy game, but more of an RTS/Tower Defense hybrid, where you design the ships, position the fleet, issue pre-battle orders and then sit back and watch the explosive galactic mayhem take place. Did you include enough fusion beams on your capital ships? Maybe you should have assigned some fighters to escort those ships in the middle of the fleet? GSB also allows you to challenge other players by uploading your best fleets to serve as their opposition, in a massively single-player galactic smorgasbord of laser-death!

I'm forever yaking about Starcontrol to her of course and I have suggested that she use her drawing skills to perhaps do some fanart up for the new pnf site. Which she has agreed to, in preperation for that I was talking about some of the races and such from SC, which she has never played btw. We got talking about the Spathi and how we don't really know what the lower half of them is like and she came up with the idea for the following image.

Due to the size I'll simply link to the image.

Mods, Clones and other Fan Content / Dreadnought Flyby clip
« on: March 25, 2009, 12:27:38 am »
I was bored and rendered a quick flyby of my dreadnought model, figured Id share it, have a look if you don't mind. One year I really should finish detailing this model. I started the fool thing 8 years ago now (if not more now). If your wondering it was done originally in 3dsmax 2.5 and updated with newer versions along the way, this video was rendered with max 2009.

General Discussion / A very original game kinda like SC is..
« on: March 23, 2009, 09:34:34 pm »
While the game is not like SC, it's a side scrolling shooter so that right there explains why. But it's like it in it's originality. I read the description on steam and I was like "what?? you play the game in reverse?" . And that's exactly what you do. Your in a time ship traveling backwards in time and you have to dodge enemy fire returning to the ship that fired it and be in the right place to "collect" your shots back. If you miss stuff it disrupts the space time continuum. Sounds weirds but give it a shot if your bored.
