I also just realized him and me used to be almost neighbours. Weird. I guess it's a small SC world.

Not really Lukipela. Finland has a population of 19, all play Star Control and all live near each other

You crazy Finns!

General Discussion / Re: Did you ever pirate Star Control 2?
« on: March 09, 2010, 11:02:04 am »
Legal way for me. Had a pirated copy of SC1 admittedly, but I loved it so much that I was always going to get the sequel legitmately. In fact my brother and I both simultaneously bought a copy so we ended up with two, although mine had the starmap missing  >:(

Ah yes, i started making a Cruiser comm screen but never got very far, let me see what i can do though..

That would be super!

As for mayo, I used to like it when I was younger, but it has since become one of my condiments of last resort. Far better is the strategic addition of some ketchup to make thousand island dressing, or the complete substitution for honey mustard, barbeque sauce, or (best yet) buffalo sauce. I could seriously eat that last one on almost any kind of sandwich and enjoy it.

Yes yes yes. I should have said condiments in fact. The US does get condiments, where as we here do not. We just have not come round to the idea that to make something delicious you really need to add some salty moistening ingredient. Rocket science? I think not

Not surprised you donít get rugby, Finland is ranked 95th in the world ( (out of 95 rugby playing nations) Ė 44 places behind the dirty Swedes. In fact youíre probably surprised that you even have a team

What we donít get in NZ is how to make decent sandwiches. I, along with everyone else in my cohort, was brought up putting butter in sandwiches. It was only after spending some time in the US that I realised what an abhorrent practise this was. Mayonnaise is the way to go here. Americans might not get cheese, but they get mayonnaise. I had the culinary equivalent of a religious epiphany when I had a sandwich with mayonnaise. And interestingly, when I got back from the US, Subway had just opened its first store in my town.

Sorry Lukipela, but briefly getting back to cheeseÖ

I was perhaps a little unfair on the cheese front Ė the Italian type cheeses like ricotta, parmesan and mozzarella were widely available in the area I was exposed to. But I was disappointed in the lack of mouldy pungent cheeses that Fossa refers to. Some are disgusting, must most are delicious. Maybe itís the northern European cheeses they donít have. And Iím not sure what you call Swiss cheese is actually swiss cheese.

My sample was limited to a town of 90,000 just outside of Sacramento. I would guess that the cheese variety in such a place might be inferior to a larger more cosmopolitan centre.  I never went cheese hunting in San Francisco when I was there.

How about this Ė has anyone read any good books about cheese recently?

What is it your after right now?

Specifically and most immediately, new comm screens for Earthling Cruiser, Syreen Penetrator, and Syreen Starbase/Homeworld

A quick note.

Iíve hardly done anything on this in the last two months so progress has been snailís pace. Others in the team have done a few bits and pieces though, and good quality stuff too.

Right now itís summer and its really hard to justify working on this when its nice and sunny out and there are so many summery things on (like building retaining walls). Iíd hoped to have the demo out mid-April but Iím not sure that will be possible.

As usual we are hamstrung by lack of decent art. So If we get something fantastic soon then the game could change completely and we could be in business.

Being married to an American, and having spent a little time over there (in suburban bliss) I can confirm: Americanís donít ďgetĒ cheese. What they do get they have the cheek to call cheddar and itís a remarkable orange colour. About as orange as Fanta.

You know how in the supermarket thereís usually a section which has all kind of delicious cheeses (gouda, edam, gruyere, port salut, the one with the peppercorns etc), well in America they also have several varieties, including yellow cheese in a tube and orange cheese in a tube. They also have Nachos cheese which is a viscous pourable version of the American cheese.

America does many things well, (basketball, highways, freedom etc) but cheese isnít one of them. Neither is coffee but thatís another thread. Actually this should be in a another thread also.

Oo, that reminds me!  I got an heirloom recently.  A chair originally owned by my great grandmother, restored by my mother.  It's an art deco chair, made of mahogany.

And let me guess. That pisses you off?

Back to hats, I've never understood them. Good for keeping the sun off your face, but theres good reason we ditched the mass wearing of them in the early 50s. Theyre useless!

I'm pissed off that snow. Again. Now. And I've bought a second hat. And it's going to get covered in snow.

What kind of hat. A snow hat?

I'm afraid to say it but I have 3 or 4 Lady Gaga songs playing in my head simultaneously. As much as I want to dislike those songs, I just can't.

Whoo! I guess this means I could go buy alcohol? I certainly don't plan to, as I like my liver and brain cells far too much for that.

Mate, the benefits of inebriation far outweigh the costs.  Go order 5 beers!

It pisses me off that Eth is on a seemingly unstoppable march towards nirvana.

It pisses me off more that Haiti just got wiped off the map.

Wait, what? Why wasn't I told? Seriously I'm pissed off that the world's mayor events somehow don't reach me anymore.

Geez have you been under a rock
