Title: What the... the filthy traitor!
Post by: Rider on December 08, 2008, 12:56:19 am
Luki hasn't showed up here in a while now, I think he left mentioning something about a hiatus (or was that Eth?), in any case, I was under the impression that he had better things to do or whatever, but now it seems that he's still posting joyously on the UQMF! (http://forum.uqm.stack.nl/index.php?topic=4345.0)

I thought We were the happy fun forum, and UQM was the one with the awfull signal/noise ratio? Where did we go wrong?  :-[

Correction: SCDB is the "over 50% off topic garbage" forum. You're right about UQM, though. Ever since Jaychant migrated over there it's been more than a little bit on the shitty side. I get the feeling several of the new arrivals are sockpuppets of his, but the core team doesn't care enough about maintaining a community to even look at it.

Gah! You're like Derek Smart. A few years back you could post that guy's name on an internet forum and a few days later he'd register and respond. But I don't think he does google searches on his own name anymore.

Luki was sick of this place, just as I was.  I just got over it faster than he did.

And yet, as I myself serve as a good example, some of us can never truly leave.

That was Eth, Luki went camping.

Luki told me in a PM exchange why he hasn't come back yet (it was something specific but you'd have to ask him), but he said he'd be back sooner or later.
Correction: SCDB is the "over 50% off topic garbage" forum.
It sounds like Shiver would like to be banned. Look at his contribution to this thread - who doesn't think that half his reason for being here is to make trouble? Who objects? Clearly Shiver wouldn't mind. But it's more than a little nutty that he keeps crawling back, after more or less declaring that this place is manifestly inferior, and after being periodically flamed off the forum. Shall we continue the cycle? :D

I'm tired of saying this, but I like UQMF, not nearly as much fun as here though. That and all the projects which get started and never get within coo-ee of finishing. It amounts to a lot of attention seeking more than it does useful on-topic discussion. If I start something it will only be when I think I will actually finish it. You can only discuss SC for so long in the absence of an SC2+1 before it gets repetitive. Oh and that place has a whole lot more jerks (I try not to count jerks here who have come from over there just to post about how great UQMF is and shit up our atmosphere generally).

Overreacting as usual. You have a grudge, I think. Let it go.

You don't like this place. We got that. Every time. So let it go? But here you are, posting anyway, `I hate this place, I'd much rather be elsewhere!' No grudge, only here to help ;)

Alternatively, you actually like it here, but either way this is quite strange behaviour.

1)  I like Shiver.  He's a sort of "tolerable douche" in that he doesn't post enough to be a pest but he posts often enough to be a regular.  While it is true that he generally bashes our happy little community at pretty much any opportunity instead of actually giving constructive ideas on how to improve it, he also engages in highly entertaining flame wars -- and if you're his opponent, you're almost guaranteed to look good.

2)  I like Zeracles.  Mainly because, when coupled with Shiver, it's guaranteed entertainment.  Other than that I don't see much use for him but what there is suffices.

3)  We've all tried to leave the SCDB at some point, admit it.  I've personally resigned myself to being here until the site closes... I figure that if jail can't even keep me away from here I shouldn't try to fight it.

4)  I'm glad Jaychant went to UQMF... they deserve him.  I hope he and Meep-Eep become good friends.

5)  I miss Lukipela.  I'm sure that whatever reason he has for leaving isn't just a load of BS to avoid updating his "history" thread.

Sedodes' point 3) really had an impact on me. I just now pretty much decided the same- as long as the site exists, I will be here, in one form or another.

Point 1) for me. I too like Shiver for all those reasons, the last in particular. I had high hopes for this thread but I fear it won't go the distance.

I tried to like him. I really tried, maybe because he reminded me of how I used to act about 3 or 4 years ago, but he just made it so difficult. I even tried to respond meaningfully to his topics, but in the end I just gave up, it wasn't worth the effort restraining myself from wincing at his words.

I never really had a problem with him, though I did notice that he could be really annoying . . . but so can I (and so can others around here). Possibly my distaste would have been magnified somewhat if I had interacted with him more. Pests can be tuned out though, so he was essentially harmless.

Anyone who misses him can relive the experience (http://forum.uqm.stack.nl/index.php?topic=4364.0) . . .

I personally like where the board is at in terms of activity.  Five or six years ago it would have killed me, but now that I've got other things to do than sit on the computer, go to work, and force my roomate to clean the house I find that if it were any busier I simply wouldn't have time to "clear the unread stuff" every time I popped on for a bit.

As it is I stopped visiting anything but the "Off Topic" section years ago.

I miss him too (he really made a spectacular exit with Must... resist urge... to post... crap... (http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/forum/index.php?topic=1640.0) and Goodbye, Cruel World! (http://starcontrol.classicgaming.gamespy.com/forum/index.php?topic=1641.0)), but for him to stay the next time around, you (``you" know who you are) would need to play a bit nicer with him. Would that spoil it for you?
If he sent you an e-mail asking for an unban, would you give it to him?
Is he actually banned now? I remember you only stopped him from posting but he could still send PMs - since then he's deleted his account. Is there anything to stop him from registering again?
probably cause he asked to be banned.
Scott, who are you here to serve? Val or the community? ;)
I personally like where the board is at in terms of activity.
I like it too, it's enough (among other things) to amuse me a little in between slabs of work. When it's more active than this there are entire threads I ignore completely.
I find that if it were any busier I simply wouldn't have time to "clear the unread stuff" every time I popped on for a bit.
Maybe this (combined with OCD?) accounts for the venom you directed at jaychant?

@ Scott & Zeracles -- For a second I thought you guys had given me an awesome Christmas gift and actually made Wikipedia entries about my movie.  Turns out you've disappointed me.  Again.

@ Zeracles -- What I directed at jaychant was nothing more than he deserved.  Just because I was able to see quicker and more clearly than the rest the kind of annoyance he truly was (and responded in kind) doesn't mean I was anything but insightful.  Perhaps others shouldn't just consider a community something to leave once it no longer fits their liking and actually try to cultivate an environment they prefer.  With the jaychant issue closed I don't even see why you think he was anything but a pest, nor why you seem to hold me responsible for some sort of faux pas.  You remind me of John Jonah Jameson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonah_Jameson), if you Aussies have Spiderman down there...

Oh dear, looks like I've inadvertently opened an old wound - try to get over it. Anyway you're still missing the point of that quarrel, it was more about moderation of the SCDB than it was about JC. There's your faux pas to go with all the narcissistic rubbish you threw around,
Just because I was able to see quicker and more clearly than the rest the kind of annoyance he truly was (and responded in kind) doesn't mean I was anything but insightful.
and here's your new one.

You remind me of John Jonah Jameson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonah_Jameson), if you Aussies have Spiderman down there...
I don't know anything about spiderman so this is lost on me, but assuming you're making yourself out to be some kind of hero (defender of the forum or somesuch), I won't fault you - I guess we all do that sometimes, some more often than others ;)

It's not that I see myself as some sort of superhero, merely that I've got somebody trying to make me look bad fairly consistently.  While I don't expect you to even be able to comprehend my sheer awesomeness with your puny Australian brain, if you ever experienced me with an open mind you'd understand that I've never been anything but modest.

I haven't been doing that, and even if I wanted you to look bad, you do that all by yourself. Read your own post if you still don't understand.
While I don't expect you to even be able to comprehend my sheer awesomeness with your puny Australian brain, if you ever experienced me with an open mind you'd understand that I've never been anything but modest.
Actually I fully comprehend the awesomeness of many of your posts and threads here, but you spoil most of it with sheer stupidity - which is still precisely that even if one understands your better moments. Overall, you're a plus I'd have to say. If it helps you, there's no need to be abusive for the sake of maintaining your ``reputation".

@ Zeracles:  You obviously don't comprehend.

As you prove time and time again.

If you did to begin with you'd have truncated probably about 90% of the posts you've ever made here.

I'm not saying that you SHOULD understand, and my ridiculing you isn't meant to be insulting so much as just a reminder that some of us are better than others -- you just so happen to be among the others.  Understand that it's a concept as old as time itself in that there can't be an upper class without a lower class.  Though your existence may seem insignificant and superfluous by comparison, it's as necessary as every particle of dirt on the planet.  Though that's not the entirety of it (since you wouldn't understand, remember?) it's a fairly accurate summary.

People like you exist to make people like me happier.  So thank you.

I still don't know where you get this JJJ idea . . . if I have to guess, either you think I really do make you look bad (like I am now, but it's purely incidental), you just can't take a joke (while at the same time you expect everyone else to take yours), or it really bothers you that a ``self-righteous twat" is happy and perfectly able to take you on when you step too far out of line.
People like you exist to make people like me happier.  So thank you.
I wish I could say the same about you, but I'm still hopeful . . . come back when you've got some real insults that aren't derivative of the same boring archetype.

Erm... Zeracles... I don't really get what you're trying to do here... are you insulting him? Is it some sort of challenge that I merily missed while reading all of this? Or is there some cosmic dimension you're conversing through that I can't comprehend?

All you seem to say is "you don't get it" or "you can't stand me being *insert vague criteria*". But maybe I am just missing stuff here...
Title: Re: What the... the filthy traitor!
Post by: Sedodes on December 29, 2008, 07:20:30 am
Here Rider, I'll summarize through (very slight) metaphor:

Zeracles is jumping up and down and masturbating furiously over the fact that he thinks he's the king of retards and pointing out that I'm not royalty at all {...a ``self-righteous twat" is happy and perfectly able to take you on when you step too far out of line.}.  In the meantime I'm trying to explain that it's better to not be retarded {You obviously don't comprehend... If you did to begin with you'd have truncated probably about 90% of the posts you've ever made here.}.  He insists he understands my point, meaning he'd rather be a royal retard than someone of full mental capacity but not of royal decent.

I'd like to take a moment to prove my point here by pointing out his complete inability to use quote analysis properly.  The sad part is that he uses it ALL THE TIME despite how easy it is for people to use a scroll wheel -- perhaps he himself has never mastered that ability.  I'll now analyze some quote analysis.  Exhibit A:

Quote
As you prove time and time again.

If you did to begin with you'd have truncated probably about 90% of the posts you've ever made here.
1)I still don't know where you get this JJJ idea . . . 2)if I have to guess, either you think I really do make you look bad (like I am now, but it's purely incidental)...

As we can see from section 1), Zeracles fails to address what he himself has quoted, going off on an entirely different tangent.  Then, in section 2), he somehow thinks that doing so makes me look bad instead of himself.  Truly the work of a "man" who doesn't understand the fundamental underpinnings of the world around him.  Seriously, Zeracles, I tire of proving you a dolt time and time again because every time I do it's like popping a coin into a vending machine of idiocy.  It's one thing to come to a battle of wits unarmed, but you seem unable to even find the battlefield.  I now say good day to you, sir, for I am finished dealing with your rampant vapidity in this thread.  [/feeding the troll]

I don't really get what you're trying to do here
Just having fun (which I've been looking for from the beginning of this thread), but also allowing Sed to demonstrate . . . this.
are you insulting him?
Not at all, Sed's the only one here who needs to resort to that sort of thing.
Is it some sort of challenge that I merily missed while reading all of this?
No, but he obviously feels challenged by it all the same.

Wow, I bet you spent all day putting that together, mostly to the end of nominating the third option as what's been killing you. Thanks for that, I thought I was on to something.
As we can see from section 1), Zeracles fails to address what he himself has quoted, going off on an entirely different tangent.
So you can't keep up and I have to spell it out for you? You think that because I make you look bad I must be employing 90% of my posts here to do it, hence the JJJ stuff, when in fact I make you look bad by accident. It's nothing personal, I guess I just have this effect on douches.
Then, in section 2), he somehow thinks that doing so makes me look bad instead of himself.
All the same, I could have done exactly that anyway since quoting just about anything you say makes you look bad.
It's one thing to come to a battle of wits unarmed, but you seem unable to even find the battlefield.  I now say good day to you, sir, for I am finished dealing with your rampant vapidity in this thread.  [/feeding the troll]
Pushing the same old material as usual. The trouble with your gimmicky presence here is that it stifles creativity. You also can't seem to remember who's heard which of your stock lines. In this case it's everyone, FYI.
I now say good day to you, sir, for I am finished dealing with your rampant vapidity in this thread.  [/feeding the troll]

And on top of being badly mangled by Shiver in the hiatus thread, I don't know who's going to take any of your flames seriously now!

I just thought of a third option that I think can also explain what's going on here. It's called being eastern-indian deafness, but it's more commonly known as "selective hearing" or in this case "selective comprehension".

Wow, you people off in the colonies sure can say a lot. You too Zeracles (joke!). This entire excessively-long-lived, multi-topic argument could pretty much be summed up as:
"I'm awesome therefore I am right."
"No, you are wrong."
Which is incidentally pretty much exactly how arguments down my way go, often with a pedantic comment setting them off. Was there a pedantic comment at the root of this by any chance?
