Project "GYAP"
« on: March 21, 2005, 12:58:53 pm »
Different from Project Drink My Ass Off and Project Eat Everything in Sight (starting in ???), Project Get Your Ass Paid is going to require YOU to do something.  Though not much.

I'm going to be awarding POINTS for various challenges and tasks.  And at arbitrary times just for my own amusement.  You can also lose POINTS for whatever reason I choose.  Or if a lot of people bother me to knock down your points.  So nyah.

Gain enough POINTS, win some CASH.  Since I'm a Poor College Student (TM), you'll have to gain an insane amount of POINTS to get a moderate amount of CASH.  Money will be sent as U.S. currency, minus shipping cost.  I may even include my very own signature if it's paper money and whatever the hell else I feel like drawing on it.  Likely an insult.

POINTS will be worth 1/10 of a cent.  You must have at least ten points more than enough to cover the cost of shipping to a location of your choosing.  Any remainder you have after an exchange will be carried over to your next exchange.  Your ability to exchange is also contingent on my ability to accrue the money, so it's being capped at 10,000 points per exchange.

But it's not about the cash.  It's the PRESTIEGE!  Imagine being able to put your point total in your caption and be admired by your peers!!  OOooOOoo...  If you're one of those "kind" people, I'll donate the money to a noble organization of your choosing.

Rewarding and Deduction of POINTS will be announced in this thread.  Challenges will be issued in random threads, so read the board.  Most challenges will require skill or smarts over speed because I'm not on the board 24/7.  Even so, don't expect me to reward you for a challenge I issued three months ago unless your attempt is REALLY good.  Attempt each challenge as many times as you like.  Happy hunting folks, have fun.

Challenge Issued:

http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~starcontrol/forum/index.php?topic=817.30

It's still early in the day, but Eth is commanding an insanely strong lead with a game I can only describe as... indescribable.  Reward will be given at 3:00pm CST today (28.03.05, dd/mm/yy) so get your entries in ASAP.

UPDATE:  Eth has lost the lead to Megagun!  Megagun cashed in on my hatred of overused internet phoenomenon and overused music to create a "should've been made pre '00" thing.  With so many terrible components it's absymally beautiful.  Wha-ha-hat (whu-huh-hut) made me laugh out loud.

UPDATE:  Megagun is TEH BIG WINININER!!!  He gets 688 points (random banging on number pad)!  Eth gets 312 to make the total 1000 and because he's Eth.  Congratulations, winners.

RE: Warning #1

Moonshadow Rogue and Exit Mundi have both been penalized 10 points each for their numerous Warning #1 offenses (in numerous threads) in the General Discussion section.  This was not a retroactive decision -- the penalization is for offenses committed after the warning was issued.  Next penalization for these individuals will be STEEP; I've decided to break my usual style of swift and horrible justice by offering a slight penalty before dropping the hammer entirely.

Please, learn from this, any post after the time this is posted will be considered in my next judgement.  Assuming you both improve your ways, there will be a challenge between ONLY the two of you to earn the 20 lost points.  So the winner will be at +10, the loser still at -10.  Assuming only ONE of you improve your ways, well, we'll see what I ka-jigger on Monday.

Woohoo! Go me! Er...us...darn pronouns!

Personally, I find Robert Heinlein a bit heady (especially in 'Starship Troopers'), but knowing of him served the purpose of the challenge, I guess...

I'm now posting the running totals for everyone with points at the bottom of the first post in this thread.  Also, I'm giving Chad a bucketload full of points for running this site and forum.  Congrats on your 123 points, Chad!

CHALLENGE... well, OPPORTUNITY

On a side note, I find it interesting that nobody has actively asked for any points.  I'd decided earlier that anyone who did would lose points, but now, I'm not so sure.  As a promotional tool, anyone who asks for points will recieve them ONCE.  Ask in a private message to me.  You'll either get the number that you ask for or lose the number that you ask for -- add a small explanation of why you want that number of points in particular, and if the reason is good or funny or whatever I decide enough, you'll get them.

Have fun.  This is open for anyone to try ONCE -- and believe me, I save my messages.  Multiple attempts will probably lose you points, but no guarantees.  It'll depend on my mood probably.

fluffy_banana is awarded fifty-seven points (+57) because sometimes purple wrenches.  If you think that's weird, you should read his "reasoning" to me; it makes almost as much sense as the number of points he requested.

NECRO-99 is given ninety-eight points (+98) because he asked for the number following his name and mentioned he was "the first" of his cloned progeny.  Of course, mentioning "first" caused me to minus one.

Eth, you just gave me a wonderful idea.

Starting now, anyone with a positive balance of points can remove points from anyone else -- for a price.

Obviously, since I'm trying to make points *mean* something, I.E., an alternative to post count numbers in terms of how generally USEFUL or ENTERTAINING someone's contributions are, the more points you possess the more points you can take away from someone.  Proportionally.

Here's how it works (based on the number of points YOU HAVE):

1-100 points are a 1:1 penalty.  For every point you remove from someone, you lose a point.
101-300 points are a 2:1 penalty.  For every two points you remove from someone, you lose one point.
301-700 points are a 4:1 penalty.  For every four points you remove from someone, you lose one point.
701-1500 points are an 8:1 penalty.  For every eight points you remove from someone, you lose one point.
1501-3100 points are a 16:1 penalty.  For every sixteen points you remove from someone, you lose one point.
3101-6300 points are a 20:1 penalty.  For every twenty points you remove from someone, you lose one point.
6301-10,000 points are an all-to-half penalty.  You can remove all of someone's points and take a hit of half of yours.

To make the dynamics of this fun, you CANNOT remove points from anyone in an increment not listed -- yes, when you hit those high point ratings (6301+) you'll have to work with other board members to get someone into the negatives.  Points are still non-transferrable; you can't "give" someone else points.

I'm going to chat with Chad and see if we can work something out where getting a certain negative number by way of points being taken from you by board members (most likely other than by my erratic self) can get you muted/banned/whatever for certain amounts of time.

In the meantime, feel free to whammy whomever you want.  Obviously, there's a benefit to the "get him before he gets me" theory since the more points you have gives you more whammy power.  If you want to whammy someone, MESSAGE ME.  Also, I will gladly credit or leave anonymous the whammy-er at no extra fee so long as the preferred method is enclosed in the message -- if you DON'T specify which, I'll pick one for you likely with the help of good 'ol George Washington (flip a quarter).

Of course, you can always make a request like Eth just did and not use any points.  This method is erratic, however, and can't be guaranteed to net you the results you desire.  Since Eth is a person I genuinely respect, I'm going to honour his request, though probably not to the extent he wants.  Exit Mundi loses another twenty points (-20) -- and considering I haven't yet read the board since last Monday, he's probably going to lose more in the next couple hours.

By the way, Eth, you're getting another sixty-five points (+65) for giving me such a wonderful idea.

OPPORTUNITY

Okay, I didn't want to have to do this -- I hoped that "TGC:T&C" would be enough of a draw to support itself, as the original thread had something like 13 original people playing a handful of different characters and races.

But no.  Lukipela is MIA and a ton of the people who participated in the original TGC thread are gone as well.  So I suppose that, as the *Heavy Space* mod who's actually AROUND, it's up to me to "advertise."

So, for a limited time only, reading the ENTIRE "TGC" thread and the "TGC:T&C" threads, understanding them, and GOOD, CONSISTANT participation in the "TGC:T&C" thread will net you points.  How many, I'm not sure.  It depends on the general quality, fun, and longevity of the "TGC:T&C" thread.  I'm also seriously considering giving points to those who participated in "TGC."

There are some guidelines and rules that go along with *Heavy Space* threads and esp. the "TGC" threads, so be sure to familiarize yourself with them.

Exit Mundi was penalized one hundred points (-100) for an incorrect guess, a week late, on the "what book am I reading" challenge.  Actually, he was penalized because after his contribution he mused, "that was easy."  Though, in retrospect, I'm impressed by the sheer audacity.  Exit Mundi recieves fifty points (+50) back

WHAMMY!!!

Eth has removed from Exit Mundi two hundred fourty points (-240) at a cost of sixty of his own points (-60)

They loses thirty points (-30) for making me launch water out of my nose, but gains one hundred eighty points (+180) for being a mister ha ha funny man.
