The Grand Council: Time and Consequences (OOC)
« on: September 01, 2004, 05:07:19 am »
Basicly, this is the third chapter in the Grand Council story.

"But a_s_b, what happened to the second chapter?"

That's my little secret.  You'll see, in time, needless to say it'll tie together the original GC thread and this one.  I decided when I wrote the original GC thread to do one sequal per year.  I just decided that Chapter Two would be fun to play if we saw Chapter Three first.  Cool, eh?

Rules of play in this thread are as follows:

1)  If you're playing a crewmember of the Wayfarer, the character must be VUX, Melnorme, Supox, or Earthling.  After being born together and living together, racial superiority complexes are almost entirely non-present.  The racism present in the PAST is going to confuse them when they encounter it.

2)  Playing multiple characters for multiple races is okay, but keep it reasonable.  I'm not going to set a limit, but please, try to know your own limits.

3)  If you can't fit a post on a single submission, don't make two simultaneous submissions.  I think we all know how to slim down what we write.

4)  If you're going to play a race that someone else played in the Grand Council thread, please ask their permission.  Either in here or in a PM cross-sent to me.  After a week without a response from them, it's yours.

5)  Be familiar with the Grand Council thread, both IC and OOC.  As this is a continuation, contrary events will be removed either by request or by force.

Other than that, all the standard RP rules apply.  No killing characters without permission (unless it's your own character) and bla bla bla.  Hopefully we'll get a lot of people coming back from the Grand Council -- the play was excellent, and it still stands as the most-posted-in topic on the entire SCDB.

Just to let you know, in this chapter "the rest of us" find out what happened to the Androsynth at the end of The Grand Council.  Chapter two is going to explain how the Pkunk became the bad boys of the Quadrant.

Luki, Erek, good to have you on board.  I'll do another post later tonight after I draft another 50 pages of my thesis.

UPDATE:  Completed.  Posted.

The writing feels a bit forced to me, but honestly, I've got too many electro-mechanical fundamentals buzzing through my head to be able to write better.  Plus I'm drunk for the last time I'll be allowed to be for five years, so it's a pretty good level of wasted.

All non-taken races, and all crewmembers (aside from Nyquist) are playable now, but only members of the crew of the Wayfarer are aware of the PRESENT.  If you want to play a crew member feel free; I think it'd be interesting to have them all split up and get into their own little adventures.  They can even go back-and-forth between timeframes, and in fact, may be commanded to by the captain at various points.  It's pretty open-ended, and I'd prefer not to have to play eight or so crewmembers by myself.

Keep in mind that the Wayfarer isn't going to be detected or destroyed easily as it's a battleship with over 300 years of advanced technology behind it.  I removed a sequence in Orz space where it destroyed a dozen Nemesis' merely with its automated weapons.

Again, this is open ended.  Feel free to do what you want aside from having your race commit mass suicide.  Really, the only races which are required to survive this story... at least, the PAST part of this story... are the Melnorme, VUX, Earthlings, and Supox.  If someone wants to kill them off in the PRESENT that's cool as long as it's done well.  The Wayfarer is basicly a seed ship, so even extinct races will come back when she returns home.

Also, for reference, the Grand Council events and timeframe will be referred to OOC and by the Wayfarer crew as the PAST, while the Wayfarer's original timeframe is the PRESENT.  Currently, the crew is in the PAST.  If anyone is going to timetravel, they must go to the PAST or the PRESENT.  Anyone who has a reason to can timetravel, though, as long as it's roleplayed within reason and has a purpose.

fluffy -- past, present, or both Melnorme?

Kohr -- The "Undead Ilwrath" were Luki's race, ask him.  The Thraddash were also played by someone, ask them.  The Kohr-Ah and Kzer-Za were unified to the original brown Ur-Quan and as a result, both belong to Rider.  Ask him.

It's fine to have multiple players in control of the same race, so long as they're different people.  I.E. two people can be  different Druuge captains, or even a druuge captain and an engineer serving on the same vessel.  They can't both be the same captain, or the fleet admiral, or the same ruler of the species, however.

I might consider playing the Spathi (if it's alright with you) later, since I'm busy at the moment. So I'll reserve the Spathi for now, unless someone else really wants to play as them.

Sage was playing the Spathi, but tired of them quickly because they're cowards and didn't really get involved.  I think they're open for play, I haven't seen Sage in months.

Also, if anyone wants to play a crewmember on board the Wayfarer, go right on ahead and do an introduction post... race, gender, position on the ship, that sort of thing -- but flesh it out and make it part of the story, not just the bare character facts.

EXAPLME:  <position><name>, wandered hurriedly through the bowels of the Wayfarer.  It wasn't like a <race> to be in a rush, but <name> had grown up around mostly Earthlings at New Brazil and as a result tended to adopt a few of their traits.

Nyquist will probably send the crewmember out on a mission (and if you want to cook up what the mission will be, rather than having Nyquist decide one, PM me with the idea).  You can even drag NPCs along with you and have them be alien fodder, or comic relief, or a traitor/sabateur (or if YOU want to be one), etc.  Nyquist won't send people out solo, so if you don't pick your companion, he will.  If it's a member of the command crew, be prepared to act accordingly if he's your superior... and please, don't kill ALL of the command crew...  Also, feel free to choose previously mentioned crewmembers if you want, I'm only controlling Nyquist.  Thompson, Lee, and Rogers are probably at least partially human on their fathers' sides (explains the names).

As for you, Erek, welcome to my parlor  :D  It's much easier to abduct a ship on deep space recon than it is from a shipyard... be sure to pack plenty of crew.  The Druuge's future depends on it.

Hope you like the foreshadowing of Chapter 2, by the way.

Indeed I did...

But the Druuge are wily folk, and don't always spring for the first thing presented to them.  Though they want the ship, they also want to know more about it first... it will take a bit for Puuppet's greed to overcome his desire for more information.

Don't worry; as you pointed out the Druuge want Shofixti DNA... plus, if one covers the other's escape you're still alive.
