Aw, come on.
« on: April 02, 2003, 07:55:35 pm »
Chat about anything you want here. No flaming and *nonsense* will be tolerated though.

Well, sounds like a place of deep boredom to me.
Sure, not everyone regards flaming particularly amusing but dammit, must the nonsense go, as well?

What's next, "please keep political comments to yourself"?

Neat clinical SGIFI look to the board, though.
So yay. All is forgiven. Maybe. Occasionally. Maybe.

Not nonsesnse as in whimsical things, take a look at the threads about the missile silo and paintball wars, you'll see it's a pretty free place to post in. Nonsense in this instance means, or I beleive it means anyway, pointless screaming and insulting, and bitchin as well.

The point of the forum is to have fun, to exchange opinions, to learn new things. NOT to sit around just screaming pointless things at eachother.

Lame? Maybe for some, but for those of us who think that "flaming" is about the lamest thing a person can do (after all, we're on a forum, you can always calm down before posting replys, noones twisting your arm to yell back in anger) it's a nice place.
Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows

Welcome back RmM.

Flaming covers "attacking other people".

*Nonsense* covers "forcing your ideas on other people".  i.e. not reading or listening to other people and just keep repeating how great your idea/opinion is.  Its a discussion board where opinions and talk about anything is welcomed.

indeed, like if I was to start running around saying I Hate you INSERT NAME and, time to die! -(playing to much diablo), Or your ideas dumb, mine is so much better, so everybody just listen to me.

Nonsense could be like "the sky isn't blue" or something, we all know it is ;) ;) lol.

Oh. That wasn't my first choice of description of "nonsense", but I get it.
This one other board phrased it slightly better, though -- "Don't be stupid". ^_^

Anyway, a decent board system, but a very slow loader.

And, yeah. Good to be back.

"Slow loader"?
What version of what browser are you using?  Netscape 6.2.2 loads the YaBB forums in an instant, and from what I've heard IE6 is even better than Netscape, SO...

... it sounds like someone needs to upgrade.
... and then on the 9th day, there was Flubbo...

I think that the change in forum software has revitalized the once-sickly All About Star Control boards.  Hip hip!  HOORAY!   :D

You might or might not have a clue, but generally it's not a matter of what precious little the browser does in terms of load speeds but rather that of the overall speed of the Internet connection in question that defines and indeed almost totally determines the loading speed, friend.

We cannot all have a six inch thick cable running to the very core of the Internet, you know.

And I'll have you know, I'm an Opera user. Screw IE and screw your Netscape. :):))

Opera user eh?  Glad you like it, I sure didn't...
... anyway...

I meant loading in the sense that it takes a much longer time for a Browser to process, oh say, a 1MB HTML file than a 3k HTML file with a 1MB image.
... and then on the 9th day, there was Flubbo...

As you mentioned, it all depends where you are at and your connection.  You are in Europe are you not?  If NOT, please forgive me ;)

When loading up the UQM forums, which seem to be served up from the Netherlands, they load at least 3 times slower than this forum which is in California, US.

So its not the server, its the connection and how far you are away.  :-/

Actually, I was reffering to software operations and their interactions with memory, processing and the like...

I live in the west of Ireland, where you write the URL of a site on a piece of paper made from calf skin, which you then tie to the leg of a messenger pigeon. You then send the pigeon to the terrestrial address of the host, who puts the relevant data a disk(s), which (s)he puts in a special little basket hung from the pigeon's neck. The pigeon then returns home, and you put the page together yourself.

I've got word that in a few years they're going to start breeding sparrow hawks for the same purpose - a much faster bird, of course, who could reduce load times by several days.

Doesn't a carrier pigeon only fly to its place of birth?  You must have quite a pigeon coop!
