Star control RPG
« on: December 06, 2003, 10:24:10 pm »
I haven't been here for a while now...
BUT
most of the boards I usualy visit (and modarate) are hosted by a single site and that site is now down.
the admin told me by mail that the site won't be up until at least a year.
I now have plenty of time to check my spelling and grammer...
AND
I decided to undertake a great project:
a star control RPG game!
but I have a problem:
I lack graphics.
most of the graphics can be taken off UQM(like starships)
but some(like a walking spathi) are not there but are needed.
I whould greatly appriciate any offer to desing graphics.
of course,for that,you name(or nickname,your choice) will be at the "credits" part.
anybody willing to help please post(or PM) your e-mail adress (if it is currently hidden).
If I don't like you-go a hell!

  I counted five spelling errors in that post.  Do I get a prize?

Now, just a thought, but wasn't SC2 esentially an RPG? Oh, sure, you didn't level up your characters, but you did upgrade your ship. Engrossing storyline, random encounters (most of them Sylandro), vast world to explore. Seems pretty CRPGish to me.
main(){char b[11]="\toooo.OOOO";int e=5,n,t=0;puts("\t123456789");puts(b);for(;n
&&strcmp("\tOOOO.oooo",b);puts(b)){n=getche();if(n-='0'){if(n>0&&n<=9&&(abs(n-e)
==2||abs(n-e)==1)){b[e]=b[n];b[n]='.';e=n;t++;}}}if(n)printf("\n%d moves\n",t);}

 I missed "grammer" last time.  Of course, I've ignored the grammar and punctuation errors, which number as do the stars in the sky.   ;D

Can't say he didn't ask for it, either.

 Â Not as much of a disgrace as my name in the credits of a game that spells Pkunk as "pkubk."

Rofl.  I had an idea for making an SC rpg using the "Well of Souls" engine (and I still might) but I don't feel like doing any coding (as basic as it is in WoS).  I've got all the graphics put together as well as enemy values, placements, and game script.  So I'm actually about 90% done.  Graphics are the original SC2 graphics with a few Timewarp ones used as filler.

For those interested, it uses the entire SC2 starmap.  50 Star Systems can be visited with most planets in each able to be explored.  All races are present, you can play as most ships (so obviously most of the races are allied for _some_ reason -- playing as *whatever* ship does NOT alter the storyline, sadly), and there are upgrades for all ships.

Upgrades are NOT unique per ship, but will benefit some ships more than others.  WoS CAN be played online with or without pkill, so if this project ever takes off we've all got somewhere else to be nerds together other than here.

Anyone interested in doing the actual "coding" for the WoS engine please contact me.  If you would like to learn more about Well of Souls and the engine, visit http://www.synthetic-reality.com

  Ah, I take it that you were able to finish the starmap w/o additional screen caps from me?  Good.
