The Grand Council (OOC)
« on: October 26, 2003, 09:37:01 am »
Well, let's get a bit of community action going here.  Ideally I'd like to see EVERYONE here who contributes on a regular basis to get in on this.

It's about a month after the defeat of the Sa-Matra.  ALL of the Alliance, Hierarchy, and Neutral races in the sector have come together to decide how things will be now that the Hierarchy has been defeated.

I think it'll be interesting to see how we decide things will go.  Will the Ur-Quan totally roll over and let their systems be divided among the other races (As Germany after WW2)?  Will the Syreen not agree to any terms of peace until the Mycon are wiped out?  Will the Druuge totally outwit everyone and expand their empire by a few dozen systems?

Only we will decide.  A single race is allowed to have multiple diplomats, but please, let's try to get more-or-less an equal spread.  I can already imagine that a few races will be without a voice, so if someone wants they can play multiple races -- just try not to argue or agree with your other race(s) TOO much.

Also, while diplomacy can (and probably will) break down and small skirmishes start because two races want the same system, let's try to resolve the issue before a race is wiped out.  Though I do think a "You may want to reconsider your opposition to my idea, as I have a fleet of warships headed at your home system" may be fun, allies to whatever races may want to have a say in this little action.  Remember, we're trying to establish peace here.

Okay, GO!

Great!  The more, the merrier.  I'm going to play the neutral arbiter bot, and later maybe play a race that isn't getting much say if people "clump" to certain races.

Okay, this sounds like fun..
Well if I can be multiple races at once, I will be the Zoq, the Fot and the Pik. ;D

While I realise that this is probably a topic that will is worthy of hours of discussion, I will assume that the first one to talk (for some technical reason  :P) is the Zoq, the frungy-obsessed one who looks sort of like a spring is the Fot (apologies to spring-looking guy) and the one at the back who doesn't talk is the Pik.

Ahhh, excellent!  I figured the Orz and the ZFP would be the first two to be "adopted".  I like your idea of having a representative of the individual Zot, Fot, and Pik -- and might I add, you play it well.  I actually chuckled; your post was very reminiscent of the actual SC2 ZFP conversations.  Of course, not to leave out Azolero's contribution, which was also quite accurate.  Having to understand a sentence based more on it's structure than the words in it makes me a bit *fuzzy*.  I had to read it a couple times.

nc302: That is exactly the order I always put the Zoq, the Fot and the Pik.

Although good posts by both fluffy and mega, they were less on the topic of "What shall become of the sector now that the slave war is over" and more on the topic of "What is Frungy and where can I download it?"

The posts have been removed (with a request initially made to alter them within a 12 hour time frame).  It is hoped that mega and fluffy make further contributions, though they be a bit more related to the story...

Sorry, my intentions weren't to promote Frungy at all..
I wanted to introduce myself into the topic.. and as i saw the previous post i thought the same as you were thinking now, so my plan was to "stop" the frungytalk...

oh well.. dunno if ill add a new contribution.. maybe later...

edit: Wasn't the point of Heavy Space to make "starcontrol like" conversations/rpgs? IF someone would go a bit sidetracked.. someone else can try to "lead the topic back", and if that doesnt work, someone else can type something like "Okay, stop the sillyness, to the point.." and then he adds something that contributes to the topic....
sorry if i may sound a bit rude, (probably not) but i dont think youve made the right choice.....

my decision would be posting a message here (in the OOC, when it really gots out of hand) saying something like: "please stop the offtopicness"

Just a heads up: The Fot is the one in the middle. Don't believe me? Take a look at this snippet from the UQM source.

Quote
     if (LastAlien != ZOQ_ALIEN)
     {
           LastAlien = ZOQ_ALIEN;
           CommData.AlienTransitionDesc.StartIndex = FOT_TO_ZOQ;
           CommData.AlienTalkDesc.AnimFlags |= TALK_INTRO;
           CommData.AlienTalkDesc.StartIndex = ZOQ_TALK_INDEX;
           CommData.AlienTalkDesc.NumFrames = ZOQ_TALK_FRAMES;
           CommData.AlienAmbientArray[1].AnimFlags &= ~WAIT_TALKING;

           CommData.AlienTextTemplate.baseline.x = (SWORD)ZOQ_BASE_X;
           CommData.AlienTextTemplate.baseline.y = ZOQ_BASE_Y;
           CommData.AlienTextFColor = ZOQ_FG_COLOR;
           CommData.AlienTextBColor = ZOQ_BG_COLOR;
     }

There's also a similar function for pointing the Fot's eye at the Pik as well.

The whole joke about who the Fot is emerges from the fact that the Fot never speaks, so he can't tell the other two who is who any more. The source does not lie.

bananna: You forgot about the Masks.

...

I suppose now that I've butted into this forum and attempted to correct everything I guess I should consider posting...*thinks*

The reason I made the decision I did is because this is supposed to be a somewhat sober thread.  I don't think that at the first U.N. summit, when deciding how to divide things in order to prevent another war, they suddenly went off on a tangent about American LaCrosse (the game) and asked where they could download it.

I do appreciate that you thought I'd made the wrong decision in removing the posts entirely (feedback is always appreciated) however I did give you a 12 hour time frame to alter the post.  As you didn't, and really the CORE of the post was about Frungy, I couldn't alter it to reflect any other topic.  My only choice was removal before other people continued.

Please understand that I'm all about leading an RP topic back on track if a person or two take it off, but talking about where to download Frungy?  That's not only off topic, that's entirely NOT roleplay, regardless of how you try to work it in.  It seems that with "your solution" you don't realize how much this can be like a snowball rolling down a hill.  It's just like ANY off topic post -- people focus on the culprit post and change the thread entirely.

Again, I appreciate the time you took to post originally and hope that you do again, but my decision stands.  I did what I did to preserve the value of the roleplay, and you did not take the responsibility for altering the post after I notified you.  I'm sorry I couldn't give you more than 12 hours to alter the post, however, I didn't want the thread to be inaccessible to other "players" for more time than it had to be.  If you've further concerns feel free to contact me personally via any of my contact information.

Ok, I'm in. Tried my besdt to give a picture of a Shofixti Diplomat (seeing as the only shofixti we've actually seen was a crazy old warrior). But I figure they are big on honour, and that their current civilisation probably takes a lot from the japanese culture, meaning they have very civilised diplomats, even though the large population might be a bit more rowdy...

Idea: when you contribute to this topic, it would be nice if you set your avatar as the race you play, and the text below it to your name and race, like i did...

Sorry about the off hours, Megagun  <:)

The avatar and quote are a nice touch, but not nessessary.  Remember, that changes your avaar/quote on ALL the boards, not just here.

I'd also like to thank you all for your excellent posts.  The negotiations are rolling along quite nicely.  There does seem to be a absence of Hierarchy (who are SUPOSED to be treated as equals) members, though.  If anyone wants to play them go right on ahead...

The time is drawing near for me to introduce my diplomat... hope you weren't having too much fun with everything going smoothly...  ;)
