a pretty star control like game.
« on: October 22, 2003, 11:16:31 pm »
there is a game named
Solar Winds
which is kinda like SC2.
you start with a starship from an ancient race(that looks like a result of a human trying to build a chmrr avatar)
but here two SOLAR SYSTEMS were slave-shielded(well actually zoo shielded) togather by the same ancient race that you get the ship from, and you find a way to get out...<end of game 1:the escape>
then after you start the seconed game you get to explore the whole galaxy <hence part 2:"galaxy"(sometimes also named "universe)>
it's a DOS game...
you need a dosbox to run it if you have winXP.

ohh by the way there is one major difference from SC2 and SW:any starship you meet in space, even if there are two of the same race, non has an identical captain.all ships that have something to say at all will have something uniqe to say.

and there is no hyperspace!
you have to travel between solar systems thru deep space(takes houres of nuffi'ngness) OR use hyperdrive which is faster but consumes foul.sometimes there is an option of using portals.

I'd NEVER do somth'n illigal!
before downloading I mailed the company who made that game an e-mail asking how to get it.
they told me they no longer sell or support this game so I can go and download it.so I did.

I had this game.  Starscape reminded a lot of it.
In a world where one man could change the world,
One man changed the world!

WORLD CHANGER: CHANGER OF WORLDS

The day the world changed
Will be known as the day that changed the world

legality is all contingent on whether you get caught or not.

Solar Winds 1 was shareware, and left a cliffhanger ending.  Solar Winds 2 was not.  I believe, later, both were packaged together as a single complete game simply called Solar Winds.
And in my opinion, SW and SC are about as similar as euchre and bridge, but both very good games.

Has anyone played "Captain Blood"? A game by Cryo, I think, not to be confused with "Commander Blood"*, which concerned flying through black holes in order to see the Big Bang? It had the conversational element of SC (though done in a somewhat less intelligible manner), and left out the fighting. Apart from one 3-D bit. That was good shit.

*I know nothing about CB - I simply have a vague feeling of un-1337|\|355 about not being acquainted with it.
