I am working on Syreen as a proof of concept.
Work in progress looks like this.

EDIT: Image has been retired by me.

If you are here to criticize this game, Please go do it elsewhere. Syreen and their "Happy Bits" Don't need re-drawing.

Doesn't sound like he's criticising the game at all, and he's free to do it here as this is the Starcontrol discussion board.

PabloLuna: Some critique. The proportions seem a bit off. Her head is quite small compared to her torso and her neck. You can tell by how her neck is almost the full width of her head, this makes her look odd. The shape of the head itself is a bit strange too. Also you might've been better off starting with all the outlines and getting them right before you start colouring. Though I like the hair colouring (especially he highlighting on top) the 2 'bangs' on the front of her face look strange because of the outlines, and the piece of cloth holding her "bra" is the exact same colour as the hair behind it, which looks strange. Also there's still some jagged edges on her from the outlining. It's especially noticeable on her arms/torso.

Bold attempt on picking a Syreen though, since they're pretty reliant on being attractive to work right.
You wish you had a signature like mine

Er, see the name of the forum above?  "Star Control discussion board?"  Yeah.  This would be the place to criticize a Star Control game, I should think.

@PabloLuna: Doesn't one typically start a painting with the background?

Normally, on paper, I have no such problems of proportion.
But in this case I bought a drawing board, so all the drawing was directly on the screen.

The problem I am having is with sketching on a zoomed screen and a small board drawing area.
This is my first attempt to make a drawing completely on digital, after years of drawing on paper.
I thought the process of migrating from paper to drawing board would be easier, but it is not.
The problem of proportion comes from sketching, thanks for pointing it out.
Criticism is always required to improve.

As for the neck being too wide, in my screen she looks thin.
Probably a problem of image proportions in my side or a problem of resolution in yours.
On paper, everyone sees the same, unlike on digital.

As for the bra, I used the colors of the original Syreen.

Originally the idea was to make an outlined picture.
This is why you have those outlines I couldn't get rid of later.

As an experiment with my new toy it seems somehow successful.
But as a piece of art, it still lack quality.

My artistic skills are weak, but this is one thing I can point out to you. If you are using Photoshop or similar, it is wise to do your lines and colors on separate layers from one another. This will allow you to "turn off" the lines or do other stuff with them without having to mess with the coloring layer.

Here is a square, so you can calibrate your resolution.

Hehe, on paper you use no layers.
This is an example of how different arts on paper are.

Sorry, but when there's 3 threads about changing the appearance of an already great game, I start to get pissy.

The breasts don't look right to me.  The one with the wing-shaped cup looks okay, but the other one doesn't seem to be angled right, given her posture and the effects of gravity.  The ribs aren't angled right; if she's bent her torso at that angle, the ribs on the viewer's right should be higher, I think.  Her left ring finger needs an extra line or two to define the individual parts.

The face and arms are quite good, though.  However, I think that Talana should have a more direct, rather than downcast, gaze.  She's a leader of her people, and a strong personality.  Your Syreen looks a bit too... demure?

I think it's a pretty sweet effort.

Unfortuntaely the system wont let me annigilate Kerma twice within 72 hours, so I'll just say "shame on you Kerma!" Consider this a verbal anniglilation

I think I will try to finish this one.
Then I might try pencil and ink to see how much change do I have.

Strong personality... my experience shows that sometimes those short thin girls have a stronger personality than those with a stronger expression.  But yes, for theatrical purposes (SC has lots of theatrics in it) it would be better to have a stronger expression.

I was planning on staying away from this forum, but could you please just use your own artistic style instead of trying to create the most realistic blue woman in existence ;).
What would you give to know the truth?

Even if there is no way of sticking this in UQM at the moment, one day it might be, And even if not, it's still lovely art. I'm about as artistic as a rock, so I can't give constructive criticism. But I think it looks quite nice so far.
Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows
