3D Render: Druuge Mauler
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:34:21 pm »
I figured rather then hijack the Sins topic about this I'd start a new topic.

So here's a current render of my new Druuge Mauler Model, with some generic textures.

UPDATE: I curved the "engine" pod a little more and added the cage over the green pod. I also started custom texturing it, the "winglet" on the top of the engine shows this, very quickly done in paint for testing purposes

Update: I changed the cage on the pod and tweaked the overall shape, I also added.. mmm ridges? to the engine. I also tweaked back the glow on the pod to show the shiny surface underneath better

It looks great to me, Scott.  Could be your best SC model yet!  Hard to say anything about the topology with all of the bump-mapping and such.  Care to post one with the wireframe visible instead of the texture?

I updated the image in the first post with the changes I made tonight, I'm just trying to think of what I can add for details, I'm starting to do custom textures but other then that, I'm not sure what to add, any thoughts? anyone?

It looks to me like you have some overlapping polys where the gun barrel intersects the main body, and on the flanges at the back.  Those could cause flickering during animation.

I'm not sure if I like the "window frame" stuff you put on the green bridge window.  It looks a bit busy to me.  I could be wrong, though.

This is really impressive Scott. The textures may be generic, but they do their job well. It looks pretty threatening.
Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows

Coming along great Scott!

Some constructive criticism. The 'pod' seems a little close to the back of the ship, especially considering the original image. I like the idea of panels on the ship, it seems to fit. I took a little closer look at the comm. screen for the Druuge and noticed the pasterns on the 'light pods' as well as the background, could you perhaps use those, or something similar, in the texturing/detailing?
You wish you had a signature like mine

Generic is another word for tried and true.  It works, it's great, it's what it needs.  It also keeps the polys down without sacrificing the look of the ship, I couldn't tell it was the texture.  I also like the tweaks you did to it, it's good to you you made it your own model.

If that's for Sins (please say it is!), then the incinerator will likely need some poly reduction.

I made a lowpoly version , Dan has it I believe, Though I could make a low poly based off the more update model.
