I'm thinking that perhaps, just as we carry around material within us that contains genetic information (DNA, which we're not conscious of), a Chmmr might carry around a signal, like a series of laser pulses, bouncing around the crystal surfaces within. All the Chmmr needs to do to pass this information on is let it out . . . as we just let it out.

Really? I usually go GCATATATGCGCGCAT and so forth Good point though, I like the idea of the Chenjesu information just bouncing back and forth, being replenished by the energy they absorb. Stick two different crystals together let the patterns meet and you've got a new pattern that can be contained in an otherwise inert lump of crystal. Or something.

That'd dissipate in effectively no time. Probably more like it's a holographic encoding that can be accessed using the proper reference signal.

Crafty interference and amplification might be used to counter the dissipation, but the hologram thing is really interesting . . . if the hologram contains the 3D crystal lattice structure, turning the process around to get a 3D interference pattern, in the right (solid?) medium, might just be how a chenjesu is born.
