What's the chenjesu...?

I always thought the Chenjesu itself was the crystal on the right, sending sparks of power to an 'interface thing' on the left, to control its ship.

But then I remembered this image:


So it appears that the 'interface thing' is the chenjesu! Is it even crystalline? It looks mechanical to me!

I seem to recall Arne starting a lengthy thread on this very subject some time ago on UQMF. I wish I could actually find it, because as per usual with Arne, it led to some fantastic art.

Chenjesu technology is described as being crystalline and similar to their own biology.  It's at least partly crystalline, maybe it's mechanical as well.

Back on topic....  I've just realized that the crystal doohickey on the right of that image (the 'interface thing') looks similar to the thing on the left of the Chmmr you see in the conversation screen.

Oh.  I always assumed that the thing on the left WAS the Chmmr!  It looks like the main subject to me, due to the way the painting is composed and colored.

I'm pretty sure the thing on the left is the Chmmr, but the rest of it does move, so I'm not sure.

As per the questionable facts of SC3, the whole thing is the Chmmr since there not many signs of his ship in the backround...

EDIT: Oh wait...On SC3, the Chmmr looks like the nice fellow on the left so I'll assume (or at least Legend assumes) thats him. Ah, whatever moves most when hes talking...
