So today we have some pretty cool news. Forum preservationist starlord is a pretty single minded individual. Single minded enough that since his arrival on PNF, he has been doggedly pursuing one goal and goal only. That goal is the acquisition of a StarCon proto. Yes, the mysterious StarCon, the Playstation follow up to SC 3 that was canned halfway through development. Why does he want it? He s a collector and preserver. What does he want to do with it? Spread it all over the net. My kind of fellow.

Some time ago, he succeeded. The proto was liberated from the hand of some collector or other, albeit at a hefty price for starlord. Since then he has been merrily tinkering around in his lab, throwing around mysterious terms such as CUE purifying. Whatever mumbo jumbo he has been up to has paid off though. Today, starlord posted a video of StarCon for us all to look at and enjoy. It ’ s located at Megauploads and is rather large, the size is 77,5 megabytes. Click here to download it and check it out for yourselves. It’s password protected, but between you and me I’m sure you’ll be able to keep “gametronik” our little secret, eh?

When you’re done enjoying the octopuslike Ur-Quan and strange combat, you ought to stop by our forum thread and tell starlord what you thought. The full proto has not been released yet, but it has been stated several times that this will be the next step. Until then this and further videos released in that thread will have to suffice. Be brave, Hyperion soldiers!

Edit: Anthony graciously uploaded this to Viddler allowing you toview it without downloading it.

Good point. Where does one usually upload these things? Youtube? Or is there some other better place?

I uploaded the video on Viddler: http://www.viddler.com/explore/starcontroller/videos/4/

I'm starting to write about the video, so I decided to upload it.

EDIT: I'm moving my comments about the video to the main thread.

Thanks for making a news post, fellas! I thought it was the Star Controller blog at first since Anthony updates much more frequently these days (I have your two RSS feeds right beside each other in Thunderbird), but I guess exciting things are still happening here also!

Thanks for  uploading the video Anthony, that'll make it a lot easier to access. I'll edit it into the first post as well. Oh, and welcome back around Niffiwan. It's busy days here all of a sudden, with several projects becoming completed or nearing fruition.

The good thing about RSS is that you're never really "gone" - rest be assured that whenever something interesting takes place in these parts, I'll be here. Wink I'm keeping up with the updates, just staying quiet for the most part...

I'm a bit didvided on the RSS feed. On one hand, I think it's great that the news goes out to as many persons as possible, letting all the dormant fans know what's going on in the SC world. With RSS we reach a lot more people than we would otherwise. The more people aware of what's going on the better.

But on the other hand, the SC fandom needs a community. If everyone just reads the RSS, it's kind of hard for TfB to point at the online community and say "See how many people would by a new SC game? See how active they are?" Writing without much response or feedback is also kind of frustrating, especially when you don't even know if there are any RSS readers out there. When everyone mostly sticks to RSS it also makes the forum look emptier and less attractive to new people.

Still, can't really force everyone to participate I guess.  Smiley

I dare say we've long passed that point and TFB is working on something else.

Fine, maybe I just want there to be a big happy community.

EDIT: And StarController updated about this as well. Anthony really does have a way with words.

I dare say it's likely that without RSS, I may not be posting here at all. As it is, at least I have a continuing link to this place that keeps me from forgetting about it.

Interesting video.  I was surprised by how far along the game appeared to be.

Hello,

I never understand why people go around telling others that they are trying to get a proto in order to dump and release it to the community, but when they obtained the proto, they only show videos and holding back the actual game.

A dump of it is circulating among collectors for quite a long time, and there's no reason not to release it. So, here it is:

http://rapidshare.com/files/243394476/StarCon_PSX_Beta.rar.html

This is a dump of the version previously owned by PlayStationMuseum.com. It's real and works like a charm in pSX. So have fun with this!

If someone can mirror the file, please do.

Hey! Excellent work and thanks for that! I'll download it for posterity, and page Anthony and Sage who stand by with epSX'es to check it out.
