Your head still throbbing, you look around for some sort of pain relief. The room you are in is rectangular, about five strides across. There is no furniture in the room and it appears to be completely empty. It's only defining feature is the door that is slightly ajar. You're not sure why, but that door makes you feel queasy for some reason. The walls and floor are all white, but the material is odd. It's not really what you associate with floor or walls, it feels softer under your feet than a proper floor should be. You take a few steps towards the nearest wall to confirm that it feels the same. The material is soft and squishy, yielding slightly under your fingers when you push it.
Confused by the setup, you attempt to remember what this room is used for. You immediately hit a wall inside your head. With rising panic, you realise that you don't recall very much of anything. You don't know your name, or what it is you do. You don't even know your gender! Thankfully, this is easy to check. You don't know what this room is, but you have a distinct impression that you've spent a lot of time in here.
Attempting to jog your memory further, you can only remember what year it is. Confusingly enough you rememebr two numbers and feel that they both ought to be correct. The year is 2132 and 47, but you've no idea how this can be. As you ponder this you notice that you can no longer hear screaming. The deep rytmich thudding you heard earlier is still there, but the intensity is much lower now. Some forgotten part of your brain helpfully supllies that it sounds a bit like artillery fire.
What is our gender?
What now?
