Recent jump in spam

I've noticed a rather large jump in spamming accounts joining the forum, rest assured I'm keeping on top of them. Just figured I'd make a public note of the fact! happy *discussing*

Thank you.  I'm keeping an eye on it as well.  I have not tolerance for this, I am deleting accounts and posts.

You must have also gotten the 1.1.7 update installed, kept telling me the update file was invalid or some such. Should almost ban the mail.ru domain, so far most of the spam has been from that or something similar.

It's happening over at UQMF too (I wonder if linking to the most recent example would get me banned, heh). The recent spike on both forums points to a common source.

Noticed this thread while posting an interesting Star Control article...

Scott, contact techsupport and they should be able to help you put Captcha on your registration pages to halt new spam-bot signups, if that is the issue you are having.

- from the former Hosting Manager of IGN, who happens to be an old Star Control fan.

Lousy automated scripts.  If it makes you guys feel any better, I've had a rush of spam on my blog a few weeks ago and I managed to block them for now.  I blocked the repeat spam IPs and that seems to block them away for now and with filtering certain keywords, so I can approve them before they're made public.

But yeah, good job in taking out that spam.  I haven't seen any lately :D
