Captain ASB-623 scanned the surrounding space, and what he saw this time astonished him. There was the familiar barrier, but activity inside of it had increased tenfold!
Hundreds of Orz Nemesis ships pouring into the region from a dozen or so dimensional portals and massive armadas of alien ships fighting them! Other alien ships obviously observing these battles from a distance and taking up defensive positions around what seemed to be their home planets -- no doubt wary of their new horribly powerful neighbors. A Melnorme trader had appeared (to no-one's surprise) and was heading toward an... EARTHLING CRUISER?! No doubt the Arilou were lurking around, now.
Finally Captain ASB-623 found what he was looking for. Eleven other Androsynth ships, all closing on his position! He sent out a hail to all Androsynth Guardians:
It's good to see you all again, seems some of you have had a little bit of trouble. I'm here to take you all home. We seem to be missing Captain MARK-2 and his ship, the Xenetrope, though. When you all get here we need a conference. Be prepared to come aboard my ship as soon as you reach my location.
Fourty minutes later the Conference Room of the A.N. Zerxyz was filled. Captain ASB-623 started off by giving his report to everyone else, and eagerly awaited the flood of new information he was about to receive.
Captain ERIK-9 of the A.N. Vynli stood up, "The barrier around this section of space is blocking all hyperwave transmission and scans to the outside, and once on the other side, all transmissions and scans going into it are nulled."
Captain KLL-007 of the A.N. Lectre added "The enclosed area is sphereical in shape, and encloses nearly 100 parsecs of space. It's amazing that this large nulled area was never explored."
"And what of the factions inside?" asked Captain ASB-623.
Captain AFK-247 of the A.N. L'llynth arose and said, "There are -- or were, originally -- two warring factions. My ship was attacked by one after I opened up a hailing frequency. They said something about my ship being a "new model" and ended communications. I believe they mistook me for whomever they're fighting."
Captain SAM-919 of the A.N. Xynil spoke, "I've seen the other faction. They seem to be in an entirely defensive stance in this war, and from what I've seen I believe it. They rescued MARK-2 after his ship, the Xenetrope, was destroyed and I'd fled."
"Okay, now we're getting somewhere" said Captain ASB-623, "anything else?"
Captain DKT-393 stood up, "The aggressive alien ship specifications put them, individually, at a disadvantage to our Guardians. The problem is that I haven't seen a group of less than three ships, and when I DID fight three we just barely made it out of there. They have a particle based primary weapon of averare power, range, and refire rate. Their secondary systems seem to create an intertia dampening effect, removing all movement and momentum from a ship instantaneously. This isn't a problem in blazer form, but when you're just in free flight, having to re-accelerate is a problem. Although their ship is rather fast, it has very poor manuverability. Crew and Battery compliment are unknown. The best way to fight them I've found is to just hit the blazer and tear them up at close range.
"Thank you, DKT-393. Any other information?"
DKT-393 continued, "The other faction have ships of average manuverability and speed. All other information is unknown, but as they're non-aggressive, I'm sure we can find out from them."
Captain ASB-623 thought for a moment, then arose from his seat and stared over the gathering of noble gentlemen he had before him.
"I speak to you all now as a friend, not a captain. There's a reason I hand-picked each and every one of you to go on this mission and it's because I wanted to be ready for anything when we came back to standard space. You're the best of the best, your being here in this room attests to that fact. I trust my lives to each and everyone one of you, as you all do to myself and each other.
We now have two missions before us. I will be leading all volunteers to retreive captain MARK-2. This may sound like an easy task given that he's being held by a seemingly sympathetic side, but there's a lot of space to search for his location, and even more enemy ships to watch out for.
Our second mission is equally important. Captain AFK-247 will be taking the damaged L'llynth equipped with the dimensional render back to the starbase "Frontier". This means that whomever stays here will be stuck if they fail. I would like all damaged ships to return for repairs, escorted by two fully functional ships."
There was some deliberation among the captains, and finally they stood in their two respective groups. Six ships would be heading back, while four others, plus the Zerxyz, would be staying to retreive MARK-2. As the captains all said their farewells, AFK-247 pulled ASB-623 aside:
"ASB-623, I beg of you, bring back MARK-2... we're..."
"I understand, AFK-247" replied ASB-623, "You have my word he'll be safe."
The ships split into their respective groups, and in a bright flash only a lonely five Guardians were left to fend for themselves and rescue their comrade. They set a course for the nearest Ninotickaun outpost and jumped into Hyperspace...
