The Ur-Quan Masters: XNA Melee
« on: April 05, 2008, 02:41:41 pm »
Hi, first post on the SCDB :)

Just a note to let you guys know I have just released a demo of my SC2 XNA project!   http://www.bwoot.com/xna

DOWNLOAD:
http://cid-e4f1227696c43a98.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/UQM_XNA_Melee.rar

Windows XP / Vista
Supports both Xbox360 Controller and Keyboard
-  Xbox360 Controller utilizes rumble, and the left stick control will aim the ship in the direction, rather than traditional Left/Right steering.    (helps alot for fast ships)

Make sure you have the required componnents installed or it will crash on start up:

   .Net 2.0 PLUS the C++ 2005 SP1 Redist -OR- .Net 2.0 SP1
   DirectX9.0c http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3
   XNA runtime 2.0 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=15fb9169-4a25-4dca-bf40-9c497568f102

More info on the components needed available here (http://forums.xna.com/thread/9924.aspx)

A quick intro page

Still a few ships that need work.

Test your might  :)

Feedback or comments are welcome, thanks for looking!

So what exactly is this? An UQM mod right? What's the purpose of this particular mod?

I gotta admit, that vid with all the stingers looks great. :)

Well its not so much an UQM mod since it doesn't require the original UQM to run.
Its a spin-off of UQM, I used the SC2 code a base but have been re-programming alot of it in C#.

Personally I've always fantasized about an expanded SC2 Super-Melee,
with more than 2 players, and more variety of modes.  This is just me trying to realize that fantasy :)
Since Microsoft released XNA a developement kit for the XBOX360, I decided to try and bring two of my favorite
things together.  So far its been alot of work, but fun.   :)

It has also been kindof lonely being a one person team though. :p

Sorry, just Windows :P

I'm not sure how difficult it would be porting a XNA app to Linux, but I am a total linux newb

This comp DOES have windows, but I just can't stand Windows. And it hasn't been updated in years, so it's breaking down.

I can stand it.
Macs are great for people who have too much money and not enough knowledge.                    //Beginner
Windows is great for wide compatability of virtually everything.                                                //Intermediate
Linux is great for people who want more control, more power over their system, and a free OS.   //Expert

I use Windows most of the time, but for when serious work and research needs to get done, linux cant be beat. not to mention the boot time for linux is like 20s vs my 4min on Windoze

Let's not forget malware on Winblows. One time, my dad had to something REALLY major (reinstalling Windows I think) to get rid of a virus that kept popping porn ads at seemingly random times. (Hiding, calling itself "pviewer" at first and then something else.)

I have my windows machine locked down with tons of stuff.
I have 3 different AntiVirus programs
I have PeerGuardian 2
BlackICE
ZoneAlarm
SpyBot
Rootkit Remover
Cryptainer   (disk image encryption)
Bootsector scanner
A thorn bouncer, and a BIOS access blocker

This thing is a virtual tank.

Yeah, we had something, but like I said, Windows hasn't been updated in years, so everything is breaking down into dust.

Yeah, understandable.I really need to reinstall windows on my machine.I cloned the disk image when I got my new computer with a larger HD,and lost my winXP cd.
I really like linux, its fast, portable, recognizes alot and is easy and fun to use.Except for dependencies.Oh I hate the dependencies.

Heh, that happens when you carelessly browse porn and download whatever is offered.

Seriously, roughly 3/4th of the "virusses" people get on windows are due to their own ignorance.

Gee, I wonder why!!

That's probably spyware/adware; not a virus, which is the easiest to clean if you have access to Notepad, XVI32, cmd.exe and the registry (as in: it can easilly done by hand, and if it cannot be done by hand, spyware search & destroy can do it for you)

Very true. there are some very good free firewalls and anti virus programs for Windows, not to mention spyware protection. If you manage to get a virus on your computer in this day and age, you are really clueless about quite a few basics.
Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows
