Trading Card Games

Has anyone ever played any trading card games?

I've played Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I'm really sad that my brother refuses to play it. I am really good and have a great deck. My collection isn't too great, though since I haven't been buying booster packs. I'm sad that Pokemon has taken over Yu-Gi-Oh!, but I understand. Pokemon was promoted by Pokemon Diamond and Pearl while Yu-Gi-Oh! has lost a lot of its fans by ditching the great pharaoh theme. :'( I would really be interested in going to a tournament, actually.

Anyone into any sort of sport or martial art?

I'm into skateboarding and Tae Kwon Do. I can do a novice olley, and I'm a Sr. yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do (That's a yellow belt with a black stripe).

1. SQ is Space Quest, as described in dteail on the previous page.

2. I've never played any card games. Back when I was young we had football and ice hockey cards which we traded for a summer or so before we lost interest. Much later on we used them as drink coupons.

3. I swim and go to the gym on a regular basis. It's a necessity when you work sitting down. I don't really have time for any sport hobbies, although I'd like to try fencing at some point.

I did fencing for a couple of years.  It was hard work; I don't think I ever won a match, but I enjoyed it all the same.

I've been playing Magic: The Gathering (collectible card game) off and on for fifteen years now.  I'm starting a booster draft league (my first draft ever!) with some buddies at work right now.

Briliant MTG card: Memnarch. Two abilities:
One selected opponent's card becomes an Artefact in addition to its other types. This effect does not end at the end of the turn.
Take control of one selected Artefact. This effect does not end at the end of the turn.

Neither requires tapping, so if you have enough mana you can theoretically take every monster they play. Memnarch is, as far as I can remember, a Wizard Legend, 5/6, costs something in the order of (5) to play and both of its abilities require blue mana.

It's amazing how hobbies have specialised language that people outside can't understand. Card become Artefact? Tapping? blue mana? You might as well be explaining the finer details of retrofitting electromagnetic accelerators into bathtubs and I'd understand just as much.

Well, in that case, you can take advantage of one of Magic's other good qualities, and just look at the pretty picture!

(Looks like Memnarch costs 7, a much more appropriate price for such a powerful card.)

I've also got Thorn Elemental, Primeval Force and Whispersilk Cloak. Get Whispersilk Cloak on Memnarch and summon the other two and I've basically won. One of my friends has a card which removes all cards on the field from play, but I can't remember the name.

Heh heh.  Combos are fun.  I have deck with a few combo machines built in, and 3/4 of the deck is just designed to find those cards and get them into play.  I call the deck "Death By Ten-Thousand Slivers."

I played with the same friend a while ago, each of us using one of his decks. Firstly, I had a 2/2 creature on the field, I forget what. Then I equipped it with something that meant the next 3 damage against it would be negated and 1 +1/+1 counter would be added to it for each point of damage that was negated. Next I played a card that deals 3 damage to one creature on the field and the owner of the targeted creature gets to choose the next target. So I targeted one of his creatures. I killed it. Then he targeted one of mine and I played an instant to block it and end the spell. Net result: One of my creatures gained +3/+3, one of his died. I won that game, in case you were wondering.

I've just started KQ1. I'm going to try to beat it without walkthroughs. Then I'll go for KQ2. Then all that'll be left is KQ4 and KQ7, and I don't like those ones.

KQ4 was pretty neat, IIRC.  The Perils of Wossername (Rosella?), wasn't it?  I think that may have been the only Kings Quest that I played all the way through.

Heh, good luck with that. Those games really weren't designed in a way that allows people to get through them on their own. Sierra had a nice little hint book racket on the side.
