Development of the New PNF Logo

Stage 1 of the new logo design process. Comments are more then welcomed, rather requested!

I... I can't really say that I like it.  I liked it when it was more ornate.  And I don't think it makes sense to shorten the name to an acronym; at least, that should be something to be used on forums, not in the main logo.  This isn't a corporation.

Why not have a sort-of contest like last time and allow people to submit different ideas?  I think I might like to try a few things once I get a bit of time.  What is the preferred width/length ratio?

Here's a rough mock-up by your's truly.  A bottom-lit Ur-Quan, holding the Rod of Command (or whatever it is) over his head.  Obviously, this would have to be in color, but it gives you a rough idea of what I have in mind.

I think it's pretty boring, really. Also, "Star Control" is written with two capital letters, and usually written as two words (though not in the SC1 logo).

Maybe Zarla or Arne would be willing to create something for you.

I agree. Art by arne would give the site a great look. No offense Scott, but your logo is just text. Arne's could be art.

Pay attention peoples,  stage 1.... as in the start of it. This by no means anywhere near finished... but it got people talking!  (which is of course why I posted it)

Yes I purposely did the Starcontrol as one word, to pay homage to SC1 and the pages of now and forever is written in the Star Control II to style of the logo.

My goal also with the acronym is to perhaps have the name stick in people head's a little more. There's allot of people who know about "UQM" but not "PNF".

  A site logo from a decade ago would be horribly dated.  Plus, the new logo needs to fit into Scott's overall style for the site.  Certain things like colors and typefaces need to fit the new site.

Hi.

Here is a mockup using CSS for layout. Content (or header, menu and footer) would be SSI of some sort*. It's mostly h3, p, li, a, img, and basic tags (easy to mark up). CSS could be a separate (linked) file too of course.
