I´m not sure, I personally celebrated the fact that I finally managed to clear Touhou 8 on normal without using any continues.

Maybe we're celebrating the exact instant from where there are exactly 6 hours, 9 minutes and 9 seconds remaining until the Earth completes a full rotation around the Sun, the starting point being the Earth's position when we last time celebrated the New Year?
