Star-control.com buy-out.
« on: April 17, 2007, 08:11:51 pm »
  Well, seeing as how Chad seems to have no interest in administering the site, why don't we buy it from him?  I know we have occasionally toyed with the idea of the buying the Star Control trademark from Atari (or whomever it was); this proved to be too expensive a proposition.  However, somply buying star-control.com and the SCDB from Chad would be a much more reasonable proposition.  I bet if we each kicked in ten bucks he would sell it to us.  Thoughts?

I have put in official word with gamespy regarding the status of this site and if anything can be done. Logged into a special area just for hosted sites and their members and sent a message via that to gamespy technical support. I'm hoping having done that my message will get taken with a little more seriousness.

Cross your fingers and/or mandibles!

Are you not able to get in touch with Chad right now, Scott? Although I definitely feel something should be done about the site, it doesn't feel right to take it without letting him know what's up first...

I'm okay with it

My 2 cents, rework PONAF to be a static resource with the links to the files and information and whatnot, but without the news. Either that or re-work it to be a Wiki database on all things StarControl and migrate all the current information that-a-way.

I had some ideas a while back about adding more life to the site, things that would be more frequenly updated, but in the end decided that I didn't want to be committed to that sort of effort.
main(){char b[11]="\toooo.OOOO";int e=5,n,t=0;puts("\t123456789");puts(b);for(;n
&&strcmp("\tOOOO.oooo",b);puts(b)){n=getche();if(n-='0'){if(n>0&&n<=9&&(abs(n-e)
==2||abs(n-e)==1)){b[e]=b[n];b[n]='.';e=n;t++;}}}if(n)printf("\n%d moves\n",t);}

I think the site's format shouldn't change. There's already a good SC Wiki in the form of the Ultronomicon, too.

I just setup a paypal account, under the name "Star Control Fund Raising Group", once it's all verified we will have a place to horde our precious money's. Best part once were done with it for now, we can have it later for use if need to raise funds for something else. Like an SC:CON!  ;D

OMG!  That would be so fun.  We should totally do it some time!  I wonder how many people would show up to a SC:CON?  We could invite the TFB guys as guests of honor, and have a bunch of computers set up to play with.  We could hold it at one of those cafes where people play video games all the time or something.

Indeed, or rent out a small legion or something some place... or community hall lol. I while back Chad and I were working on a plan for just such an event, I had built a website and was going to map out where it would be and then have little pins on a map show who was planning on coming and so on. But never got much further then that =/.
