Toys For Bob's newest
« on: April 23, 2003, 10:39:49 am »
Heya.

Toys For Bob's new game's coming out soonish. Thought I'd start hyping it now. Extreme Disney Skate will be out this fall-ish, and though its a Disney game, and technically TFB are <b>situationally</b> corporate whores, its a damn good game that's fun, interesting, and just all around worth playing. K. I'll be back...::glare::

Hiya Arianna!

Can you elaborate on "TFB are situationally corporate sleepers"?

I plan on keeping my eye on it and sharing interesting news with folks.  Doubt I'll run out and buy it... but Timone and Pumba do rock :)

It's just not gonna be as good as Star Control, it's a Disney game, and it's not going to be from their own material; something they worked hard on.

I'm not really interested...

Duh, it's called Extreme Disney Skate! There's no starcontrol in that, mind you that just because it's TFB doesn't mean they HAVE to make only Starcon like games...

Unfortunatly, I'm not into skateing games... at all.

Well, let's not forget that one's primary concern as one who makes computer games should be to make games fun. If a game is not enjoyable, all else is empty and pointless. Indeed, a great many old games were more fun than those which one might buy today, owing largely to their greater simplicity.

So, there's every chance that a nice, uncomplicated skating game could be fun. Whether the nerdy demographic we represent here would be interested in it is another story, but as "loyal fans", we should wish them well.

Indeed we should.  If this game does well, it could put them on solid financial footing to make something a bit more creative.  The website looks pretty slick.  Activision seems to be putting some decent marketing into this thing (for all I know).

I enjoyed Tony Hawk's Pro-Skater (rather to my surprise), so there's a decent chance that I'll like this, too.  I like some of the movies that this is based on, too (though not Tarzan.  Yecch!).

I do admit to being rather disappointed, but I understand the whys and the wherefors.

#1 - Characters from Toy Story 2, Tarzan, The Lion King, and your own custromized kid-skaters are in it.

#2 - Teehee! And I will.

#3 - If only.

#4 - The whole situationally corporate sleepers thing was not actually phrased that way, I think the board censored me...damn the man. Anyway, TFB's long term goals are to get in closer cooperation with Activision, because they seem like the best channel to get to a point of more powerful artistic license. But in order to achieve that cooperation, they have to do some big name stuff, ya know. this is really my interpretation of the situation. I think its fairly accurate, but who knows what goes on there while I'm not around...

#5 - To each his/her own. I can understand how a fan of SC wouldn't go for Disney Skate. But for the record, they are working extremely hard, and its a damn fine gamein quality and content.

so yeah...</rant>

ps - im returning to my SC2 days of voice acting with this gme...listen for me in the create-a-skater level!

peace out.
