UQM voices.

Post by Zanthius » Thu Mar 22, 2018 10:44 pm

Since the other forum isn't working anymore, I am posting here instead.

I think the Kohr-Ah should sound more like this: https://clyp.it/ae0n0gms , since a 10 meter large predator like the Kohr-Ah should have a more authoritative voice.

I think the Chmmr should sound more like this: https://clyp.it/qgy2t05p, since it sounds more like a robotic/crystalline lifeform to my ears.

BTW. Anybody with a good english accent want to read the "ancient sages" page into an mp3-file? Then I can modify it afterwards to make it more authoritative.

BTW. About the Orz. See what FF wrote about them:
: Were there any interesting plot lines that were left out of the final product?

The first one that comes to mind is that we wanted the Orz to be much scarier and if you ever took them into Quasi-space with you bad things would happen. We
really wanted them to creep you out so that you were never sure whether or not it was a good idea to be allied with them.
So, I think I might be justified in that we should have a somewhat more scary voice for the Orz. https://clyp.it/qzmcueho

Can you link where he wrote that?
I do remember this passage, yes. But I find it good practice to actually link if you quote someone.

Furthermore, I've already stated my thoughts on the UQM forum...
How would the universal translator know what kind of alien (authorative, scary, scared) the alien on the other side is?
Analysing a speech pattern is difficult enough for an AI to translate, even more so for alien races. But then also analysing unobserved actions and decide on a tone for the translated speech?

Since the Ur-Quan are not translated using the Universal translator1, I can agree to their voice being more characterising, but the other races...?

1: they are being translated by the "Talking Pets", which take up your intention directly your brainwaves....

Thank You.

Other interesting stuff in there for the upcoming court case(s), but that's for a different thread.
