With all that, still, one redeeming fact is him participating in the conversations personally and not via PR person.
Having inconsistent replies is nose wrinkling, but may come from views changing over time or things being said in the moment. At least that would be in "civilian" settings. Coming from CEO should carry more weight, probably...
