I just meant, any more and you're in spoilers territory.

Oh, except,

7: in the ship modifying screen, press up and down to get to the slots for thrusters and turning jets. The first time I played we had no idea how to add them and, well, things did not go super-well.

Since the Earthling Cruiser Tobermoon is immediately available at the beginning of the game, I've been doing some testing in SuperMelee using an Awesome AI Computer Earthling Cruiser fleet of 14 VS. an Awesome AI Computer every other race's 14-size fleet.

It got me thinking, if a person, not me of course, were to use the Cyborg setting (crowd begins to grumble and starts gathering rotten tomatoes), what strength level is the AI setting for the player's computer-controlled ship in Full Game? Is it at the Awesome level setting? Not that I would use the Cyborg setting or anything (crowd grows restless and a riot is immenent as yelling, profanity, and the occassional rotten tomato is thrown), I was just wondering...for uh...research purposes(ducks).

All ships, friend and foe, play at the "awesome" setting. For the most part it does not play ships anywhere near their full potential. In the campaign, there are a few changes with the AI of the ships you fight: the VUX Intruder doesn't get to warp in next to you like it would in Super Melee, and the Slylandro Probe has some kind of dodge penalty that makes it much easier to hit. The latter tweak is a big deal - cyborg Slylandro Probes are pretty vicious.

Thanks for the info Shiver. The Vux Intruder's lacking of its surprise attack feature makes sense to me after you brought this to my attention. After thinking about it a little while, I'm guessing this has more to do with providing balance against the Precursor Starship than anything else? I like the Vux's sneaky ability (only when I'm at the helm of course!) since it's a great oppurtunity to immediately attach some Limpets or, depending on the adversary, quickly destroy the opposing ship outright. Still, it's a sensible trade-off, even if it does leave the Vux in a precarious situation; if it's unable to quickly perform a Gravity Whip, it's a sitting duck!

Ok, thanks. I went ahead and printed a copy of the old SC2 manual for the basics as well. I also read the backstory since I'm assuming that anything Captain Zelnick would know, I should know...after all, he is me and I am him!

Was this maybe done since the Probes are encountered early in the game? I've had some tough battles with the Slylandro Probes in SuperMelee, and at Awesome level many times on the losing end. Given the Slylandro's high speed and constant motion, the computer is able to make quick decisions and is relentless in its pursuit. "Zap! Zap! Energize! Zap! Zap! Energize!" It can really pinpoint those asteroids quick at Awesome level too! Whereas at Standard Cyborg level it's more like, "Oh no...I'm out of power...perhaps I should do something about that...oh wait!...there's a convenient asteroid I could use to refill my battery...nah...I think I'll just wait for the next one!"

LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain's Log - Feb 17, 2155

We have just arrived on the outskirts of the Sol system and I'm eager to finally make it "home" to Earth. I'm simply amazed, astounded really, at the fantastic power and capabilities of this strange Precursor ship, the Vindicator. I've analyzed, during our voyage, the Precursor ship's computer and I've discovered many awesome things about this ship. First, since the ship is incomplete, it can receive many more additions and various enhancements to make it even more powerful. Second, the Precursor's computer is highly efficient at translating alien languages. Third, it can take along up to 12 additional escort vessels along with it into HyperSpace. 4th, and I'm not completely sure about this, but it has seemed to somehow scan for all spacefaring technology in this area of the galaxy, and it can even run a combat simulator for practicing battle against the known alien races of this region, even if they are currently unknown to me.

The last thing the Precursor ship is capable of is the most significant indeed. Again, I'm not sure I'm understanding all of this technology correctly, and I'm learning some of this by conjecture and pure speculation on my part, but the ship seems capable of traveling through time somehow. The Precursors may have known much about time travel, and may have even looked at life itself as a "game". For when you want to initiate a "time portal", the onboard translator refers to it as "Save Game" and to activate the time portal, you choose "Load Game". Very strange, and I don't understand it all completely, and probably never will, but I have already successfully tested it... and it works to perfection. In fact, it can even protect me and my crew from death itself, allowing the ability to suspend time altogether and access a time portal in case of imminent destruction. That being the case, on a large enough timeline, my chances for success are 100%! Well, at least that's what I hope!

We will now set a course for Earth. Zelnick out.

Captain's Log - Feb 20, 2155 (Save Game 00)

We just encountered an Ur-Quan drone as we approached Earth, informing us that we are trespassing in Ur-Quan space, that Earth may not be approached, to not mess with their orbital platform, and that our ship is independent, which is not permitted. There was also some weird-looking toad-like creature which appeared to be talking on behalf of the Ur-Quan in the lower righthand side of the viewscreen. The Drone is going to report us and commanded us to await an Ur-Quan ship. Then it zoomed off before I had any chance to react. Great. I just got here and things are already looking bad! This sucks!

Short-Range Sensors show Earth, which looks red, the Moon, and the orbital platform that the Ur-Quan drone mentioned.

We will continue towards Earth. Captain out.

Captain's Log - Feb 21, 2155 (Save Game 01)

We have just entered Earth's orbit. I doesn't look like we won the war. In fact, it looks like Earth has a massive glowing red slave shield around it, and the planetary sensors can't even penetrate it to give any kind of reading. Perfect. Just perfect.

We will set a course for the orbital platform. What else could go wrong? Zelnick out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain's Log - Feb 22, 2155 (Save Game 02)

We approached the Ur-Quan orbital platform and were greeted by Commander Hayes, who identified himself as being in charge of this resupply space station for the Ur-Quan. He said that since the Ur-Quan hadn't been around to resupply them, their energy was running low and they wouldn't last much longer. Curious...why would the Hierarchy neglect to maintain their own starbase? He asked for us to go to Mercury and bring back some radioactive elements to save them and their starbase. Well, I did ask what else could go wrong. Guess I got my answer!

We will set a course for Mercury. Captain out.

Captain's Log - Feb 23, 2155 (Save Game 03)

We have entered Mercury's orbit and are about to dispatch the Lander to retrieve the radioactive elements that Commander Hayes requested. Just as Hayes warned us, the scanners show that the surface has a temperature over 165 degrees celsius and Class 3 Tectonics, so there will be an abundance of earthquakes and hot spots.

We will now dispatch the Lander to the surface of Mercury. Zelnick out.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain's Log - Supplemental (Save Game 04)

The mission was a success! We found radioactive elements and other valuable elements as well. Considering how things have gone so far we've got to celebrate our little victories when we can!

We will set a course for the Starbase. Captain Out.
