Contest time Hunams of the world!

Re: Contest time Hunams of the world!
Yeah I agree. I'm too familiar with LoL, having played it for a few years now, to transition to a different game. I tried playing DotA 2, but I thought it was ridiculous that a mage-type character could auto attack a non-tank character to death fairly quickly, without using any abilities. Right click fest, hell yeah.
Now the issue with the League forum is that there is a feature for rating individual posts. This would be fine and dandy if only the very kind, respectable player base of LoL used it as intended {upvote helpful and well written posts, downvote useless crap}. Instead, it simply turned the entire forum into a massive circle jerk. Suddenly, the focus shifts toward gathering as many likes as you can instead of sharing a good, valid opinion. Nobody even bothers reading your post if it doesn't have more than 30 likes or so, especially if it's tl;dr. Yes, the downvote button gets abused into oblivion. The quality and validity of your posting does not matter; if somebody disagrees with you, he will downvote you. On the other hand, it is possible to get hundreds of likes from posting a one word reply, or a stupid inside joke.
The League reddit is home to some of the internet's worst scum. That's all I gotta' say about that.
Finally, probably the single worst part of LoL is the tribunal system... can anybody tell me what could possibly go wrong if you allow a free-to-play community to manage itself? Riot certainly couldn't, and that's why I've been chat banned for "verbal abuse" on several occasions, despite having typed absolutely nothing all game. Butthurt losers will often band together with their buddies and collectively report an innocent winner because A ) The "report a player" form is easily accessible and can be filled out in less than a second, I shit you not. B ) There is no repercussions for false reports whatsoever C ) The game rules can be interpreted much too broadly. Consequently, about 40% of the playerbase is now chat banned, and are incapable of effectively communicating with one another... which is a huge handicap in a game based around teamwork.

This thread has gone very far off-topic. Try to avoid that.

oh well, just warn eth about it, i'm sure he has time somewhere in the next 3 months to place a red warning message somewhere on this board
.

Re: Contest time Hunams of the world!
I'm not even sure if Eth is much for protocol anyway lol. Honestly, some of our most glorious threads have been started from off-topic conversations.
So, who else is actually working on a contest submission besides me?

I would have, had the result of the poll been fanfic.
But now it ended up being artwork, and I'm terrible with that, so yeah...

Disregard the poll. Literature is also an art form.Quasispatial wrote:I would have, had the result of the poll been fanfic.

Agreed. Fanfic is also Art.
Now that I'm back from the land of heat and unnatural humidity, and having successfully achieved "get super sun burned in the Caribbean" I can continue on here.
I'll get a proper post on the news page with proper contest details.

Re: Contest time Hunams of the world!
I'm just wondering - does the fanfiction have to be exclusively Star Control, or can it be a crossover, say between Star Control and Portal?
Asking this because I was first planning to write a star-control only one, but then I ended up writing a crossover instead...

If you look at it from a certain perspective, everything's a crossover.
I'm not the authority here, but I'm sure that whatever you produce, if it is related to Star Control, will be welcome.
