48? What are you talking about?
Also, spoiler alert, since this guy hasn't finished yet?

Re: Progress in Star Control II
I was now able to safely retrieve the strange object I found when searching for the Slylandro homeworld. It turns out it's a Mycon eggshell, and according to Commander Hayes, from a really big Mycon. What does that mean? Is there a hugely powerful Mycon out there somewhere looking to destroy my fleet?
It turns out that the Orz nemesis is a good ship to use against the Mycon podships, when you deploy the Space Marines. It's best to deploy at least two at once, so that they can damage the podship faster than it can regenerate its crew, so you can then finish the Mycon off with the Orz nemesis's main gun. I still haven't found a use for the Zoq-Fot-Pik stinger's tongue attack.
I have now outfitted my flagship with the maximum number of thrusters and turn jets, and every module slot is in use. I keep on acquiring thousands of RUs from every single voyage I make. Sooner or later I'm going to accumulate more of them than I can use. By that time the most of them will be spent on fuel and crew. I've already spent over one thousand crew members from the starbase, does that mean that the starbase will run out of crew, and because of the Ur-Quan slave shield, Earth will be unable to send any more, so I'm stuck?
Another question: All of my 12 escort ship slots are now filled, with Earthling cruisers, Orz nemeses, Pkunk furies, Zoq-Fot-Pik stingers and one Spathi eluder. What if I make an alliance with another race and they decide to give ships as a gift? Will these ships go to waste?

Yes, and they'll tell you so in dialogue.
Re: Progress in Star Control II
No need to be that shy with the Marines, just spamming eight at a time works well on AI Podships (it's safest here to try and get as many marines aboard as you can, the less time they remain aboard, the less chance there is that some of them get killed). It's still more risky than using your Pkunk Furies, once you get the technique down. (Again, Supermelee is your friend for this.)palaste wrote: It turns out that the Orz nemesis is a good ship to use against the Mycon podships, when you deploy the Space Marines. No, but they will become progressively more expensive. As either Nic or Meep once said, though there are 1900 highly trained and dedicated crew on board the space station, there is an unlimited supply of unskilled slackers who can be beaten into shape.palaste wrote:I've already spent over one thousand crew members from the starbase, does that mean that the starbase will run out of crew, and because of the Ur-Quan slave shield, Earth will be unable to send any more, so I'm stuck?

That's good to hear. I have already found out that now that I have every single module slot on my flagship filled out and am carrying the maximum amount of 12 escort ships, the RUs I gather from excursion trips are only useful for crew and fuel.Death 999 wrote:No, but they will become progressively more expensive. But this does create an interesting question. As I remember, the Ur-Quan slave shield prevents anyone from ever entering or leaving Earth. So where do all these humans aboard the space station come from? Do they keep reproducing at a frantic rate?

Because Toys for Bob aren't Sierra.palaste wrote: But this does create an interesting question. As I remember, the Ur-Quan slave shield prevents anyone from ever entering or leaving Earth. So where do all these humans aboard the space station come from? Do they keep reproducing at a frantic rate?

Of course, you may want to change what's in these modules for certain missions/technological upgrades.
Re: Progress in Star Control II
Keep in mind that crew members don't have to be human. You should have plenty of Zoq-Fot-Pik and Orz at the starbase, too.
KYAAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!
