Progress in Star Control II
I have made progress in Star Control II. I have made alliances with the Spathi, the Pkunk, and the Zoq-Fot-Pik. My flagship is now outfitted with the maximum amount of thrusters and turn jets, and can outrun most enemies in hyperspace. The flagship is also powerful enough to easily destroy Slylandro probes.
I am now at the Zoq-Fot-Pik homeworld, but when I tried to fly back home to Sol, I encountered three Ur-Quan ships. I was almost able to destroy one before it destroyed my flagship. Obviously I am no match for the Ur-Quan yet. Is there a way to get back to Sol without encountering the Ur-Quan?
Also, I have noticed that when a Pkunk ship is destroyed, it sometimes reappears. If it is destroyed again, it's gone for good. Is there some logic to when this happens or is it random?

Re: Progress in Star Control II
When you leave the solar system just manually avoid the ships by weaving around them until you get out of Ur-Quan Space.
Unless they attack you the second you leave the Zoq-Fot-Pik Solar System (as in the black circle is right there), then there's nothing you can do except fight them or load an earlier save.
Also, Pkunk Fury's resurrect 50% of the time. So each time you die there is a 50% chance of resurrection. This sometimes results in many resurrections of one Fury. (If you use balance mod this chance is different, but I'm assuming you use Vanilla)

OK, I left the Zoq-Fot-Pik home system on manual control, and was able to evade the Ur-Quan successfully. I did run into a Slylandro probe on the way though, but they are easy to destroy compared to the Ur-Quan. Back at the starbase Commander Hayes warned me that I had already spent over a thousand crew members.
The Zoq-Fot-Pik told me that they had sensed the probes coming from a place lying on a straight line that contains their world and Epsilon Muscae. However, I have already visited three systems on such a line and have not found the Slylandro.

It's there, you just have to keep looking.
Yeh, keep an eye on your crew loss, that can affect something a bit later.

This is one of those puzzles a paper starmap is good for, you can simply draw a line along the map and visit every system it intersectspalaste wrote: The Zoq-Fot-Pik told me that they had sensed the probes coming from a place lying on a straight line that contains their world and Epsilon Muscae. I did a similar thing - I took a screenshot of the starmap, and used the GIMP to draw a line along it. But so far I still haven't found the Slylandro homeworld. I did find some strange object, but before I could take it back to Sol, I got attacked by the Mycon, who destroyed all my ships. That the Mycon can regenerate their crew doesn't exactly help my progress.oldlaptop wrote:This is one of those puzzles a paper starmap is good for, you can simply draw a line along the map and visit every system it intersectspalaste wrote: The Zoq-Fot-Pik told me that they had sensed the probes coming from a place lying on a straight line that contains their world and Epsilon Muscae. Make sure you check EVERY planet in those systems.
Are you saying that the Mycon are attacking you around those systems where you are looking for the Slylandro homeworld? You may be in the wrong place on the map. Maybe consider going the opposite direction on that line.

It can be helpful in situations like this to practice fighting whatever ships you have trouble with in Supermelee. For instance, try giving the "Awesome Cyborg" five Mycon Podships, and give yourself a full fleet of the escort ships you have access to. I personally suggest trying Zoq-Fot-Pik Stingers on the Podships (the Podship is one of the few ships against which the ZFP's tactical advise is correct, more or less).palaste wrote: I did a similar thing - I took a screenshot of the starmap, and used the GIMP to draw a line along it. I finally found the Slylandro homeworld. After discussing with the Slylandro, the fact that the probes kept attacking me makes sense. But I used too much fuel exploring the systems to be able to get back home to Sol. I will have to load an earlier save, suit up with more fuel, and travel directly to the Slylandro home system. At least now it seems I don't have to keep fighting the probes any more.

I would suggest running out of fuel sometime and waiting to see what happens...palaste wrote:I finally found the Slylandro homeworld.
