I was going to say "You're awesome", and you just gave away the trick.
Anyway, you're awesome too for finding that tool.

I'm beginning to think that Chmmr is some other font with custom serif.

I've made some progress on the PNG generation, I think it will work out quite smoothly.
One of the issues is that SC fonts are not all the same size (pngs range from 8 to 15 and that's not even the font size since there's some white space below characters), but I'll make something where one can choose the size, and we can toy with it until we find a good match.

Size should be multiplied by 4, right ? Any other specs you'd like to have ?

:shock: No. Just multiplied by 4 should be fine. I've thought about having the fonts go up to 16x if I was going to manually edit the graphics so nobody would have to recreate the fonts again. But if using true-type fonts as a basis, that's not even necessary. I don't know enough about how the fonts work in the game to comment much else. I do know when I increase the resolution the fonts are still the same 1 or 2 pixels apart. so at 4x, they look closer together. that's a programming bug though.

Yes runonthespot. You are indeed awesome! Tool or no tool. Yeah. I think the Ilwrath font is custom. If I have to make that just that font, I'm okay with that. 30 custom fonts just is a little overwhelming. ;) I have found a lot of great alternatives too for the other alien races.

Dragon: That's some great resources there! I don't think it fits in with this project right now but I have some other projects planned that these would make a great fit for. Thanks!

aye- although i gave up with that tool because of the chmmr... which really does seem custom, and needs to be "right" on account of needing to be suitably crystalline and spiky. I reckon it was the combination of that font and the awesome music when dropping the solar device that gave me one of the best "goosebump" moments in SC2

How's that for you ? It goes without saying that I've made this image with bitmap characters created by my script. Those correspond to 32pts characters, but it's easy to choose another size.

I make spaces by hand, it would be a bitch to script them and it's not exactly the hardest custom character to draw...

I'll download the other fonts runonthespot has found and see what can be done with them.

Tell me if you find good candidates to serve as a basis for Ilwrath caps and Chmmr, I can bitmapize them too.

I would recommend crossposting this over at UQMF, since the core team might have some insight into this but they don't often frequent this site.
