Thanks, very interesting presentation and the history part was new to me.

Nicely-done. I've played quite a bit of SC1 in my day. In the last few years, I've mostly used the Genesis version with an emulator, in order to have those superior sound effects.

Very nice review, I even commented on youtube
Btw Eth, I tried emulating StarControl 1 on genesis also, unfortunately it ran at least 5x slower then the DOS version. Does it do that to you too?

Man, you really like your SC don't you? I love how your voice goes so genuinely excited and tingly when you talk about the game.

I recall that it ran a bit slower, but not 5x slower. Also, IIRC the color palette wasn't as extensive in the Genesis version, but I considered that to be a good trade-off for the additional scenarios and the better sound effects and music.Nuclear wrote:Very nice review, I even commented on youtube![]()

The genesis version was one thing I didn't get to comment on in the video. Not really pertinent to the discussion.Eth wrote:I recall that it ran a bit slower, but not 5x slower. When they made the Genesis version they wanted to do some optimizations to use blast processing and get the framerate up, but it was shipped out the door before they got the chance. Hence the reason why it's so choppy. But it does have a few new Full Game scenarios, so that's exciting.
I'd love if the code for the Genesis version turned up somewhere like the SC2 code for the 3DO did. Would save me the time inventing my own map making if I ever make the remake I want to.
