Nice pun to spell the Glory Device with an underscore!
''I swiftly matured into a fine example of my species and with my parents' assistance, achieved independence.
Specifically, they pried me from the doorjamb, and rolled me into the street.'' -Fwiffo

Captain's Log - Supplemental

As we left orbit of Pluto, I decided to place a time portal and travel back to experiment with the encounter with Fwiffo. I received a few different responses when I acted more compliant towards Fwiffo; he would either react with either cautious disbelief or develop a brief condescending attitude.

When I would change to a more hostile posture, by either demanding information or deliver an insulting statement, he would surprisingly react violently by ceasing communications and attacking us! Surely he knew, being the only Spathi on his ship, that his chances of survival were slim to none. Nevertheless, Fwiffo demonstrated an interesting side to Spathi psychology: when their backs are against the wall...expect them to lash out!

During one of our talks, when Fwiffo thought I was trying to fool him into giving me the coordinates of Spathiwa, I changed my posture into a threatening manner and demanded that he give me the coordinates, and called him a slime dog, or something. Before attacking me, he stated that his homeworld was the 1st planet in system (570.4, 979.5), which would place it in the Delta Lyncis System. Of course I know he was lying, and I also assume he just named that far away system at random, but I will keep it in mind if we are ever nearby.

After I recorded all "possible" outcomes to our chats (the Precursor’s onboard communication transmitter offers suggestions of what I assume it can transmit with ease of interpretation by the receiver), I reentered the time portal. When I returned to present time, I viewed the starmap and confirmed the Spathi's sphere of influence. We will continue towards Starbase. Zelnick out.

Captain's Log - Apr 27, 2155

As soon as we arrived at Starbase, Commander Hayes informed me that they are being bathed in a broad-beam HyperWave transmission from the direction of the Rigel System. I wonder...could this possibly be the Chenjesu? They immediately came to mind since Commander Hayes mentioned that they could send HyperWave messages naturally, and during the war Rigel is the system where the Chenjesu suffered many casualties; we don't even know what happened to them after Earth was conquered. It could also be a nearby system and not Rigel itself, since he said it was from that direction, and also could have absolutely nothing to do with Chenjesu. The Rigel System is fairly close, so we will have to investigate there soon, but I'd much prefer to have more defensive capabilities prior to that endeavor.

We are at full crew on the Vindicator and the StarRunner as well. We didn't have quite enough RU's for another storage bay, so I had another set of antimatter thruster installed instead. We are now ready to leave Starbase.

We will set a course for Sirius. Captain out.

I picture myself as Captain Zelnick taping two large pieces of paper, one reading "Activate Time Portal Button" over the Precursor ship's button labeled "Save Game", and "Enter Time Portal Button" over the "Load Game" button!

Two things:

Fwiffo did in fact give you an amazing and easy to overlook hint. Just another reason he is awesome! Just... don't be in a rush to examine that system.

Also, do yourself a favor and have at least 2 cargo bays on board when you are harvesting raw materials. Having only one will make your trips back and forth to the starbase extremely inefficient, because fuel is pretty expensive.

Were you referring to the Delta Lyncis system? Everytime I angered Fwiffo to the point of attacking he'd say the same thing about "My ichors pulse through my body with unusual ferocity!" and being eaten by an ugly cow or something. When I demanded his homeworld coordinates I was expecting the same response, but it also included the coordinates for that far off system. Curious.

Thanks for the advice. I considered selling some thrusters or jets to get enough cash for the 2nd storage bay. When I asked Commander Hayes what he would do in my shoes, he no longer mentions needing more thrusters and jets, so I'm hoping exploring just the nearby stars will help me focus on increasing cargo storage and fuel capacity as my next priority. Afterward, I can focus on upgrading weapons and dynamo as my exploration widens; Commander Hayes keeps bugging me about those too!

:?

It's not a big deal this time, but maybe we should refrain from contaminating the hints pool any more?

Oh you mean the magic deja vu feeling that you sometimes get when adventuring, thinking 'i've been here before, I've said this before.. I have a bad feeling about this'.. Like in those video games where you can restart from an earlier time?

All right, I will stop.

Thrusters and turning jets are definitely your top priority; I wouldn't worry too much about fuel capacity right away since your starting fuel tank can get you to a goodly number of destinations starting out. However, having that second (or third!) cargo bay is essential in order to avoid going back and forth to the starbase pretty much constantly, which is a huge waste of expensive fuel. As for your combat capabilities, it's hard to consider those a priority when you could buy a fully crewed cruiser for less than the cost of one ion bolt gun. You should be all right relying on escort vessels for a while until you build up a healthy stock of RUs.
