KYAAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!
Re: Stardock Plans Reboot of Star Control
I think the most people who play SC2 for the first time get the Kohr-ah wipe and then they can load from their saved games from WAY earlier to be able to prevent this. Which is not fun at all. Tvtropes ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... orGameplay) has a nice article on it.Draxas wrote:Man, you must have gone really SLOW then. I know punishing the player for things they couldn't know in advance is present in many older games, but nowadays such tactics are hardly used anymore.

So... Is there any news about the game?

It's kinda sad that nobody has enough time to update the frontpage with Star Control Developments (I'm looking at you Scott Irving)

Re: Stardock Plans Reboot of Star Control
Who holds the rights to the aliens?
It can be Star-Control-like without them. It can be a great game! But it won't actually be Star Control.
Like, if you made a Star Wars story without any of the particular characters, Jedi, the Sith, or anything else to do with the Force, the aliens, the places, the political structures, the ship designs, or the particular technologies.
You can have a Star-Wars-like story then, too. It just won't be Star Wars.

Star trek Enterprise didn't include any characters from Star trek the next generation, yet it WAS Star trek.
Re: Stardock Plans Reboot of Star Control
The reboot is currently Stardock's biggest project with a ~$5 million budget, and seems to be moving along.
They're currently taking applications for a "Founder's Program": a private alpha with access to game builds, early content, and a forum to communicate with the dev team.
Stardock decided to leave the original story alone and reboot the series (new canon). Even so, I figure some fans will be interested in having a say in how the game turns out.

Early access is planned for 4Q2016 according to their roadmap:Maloo Oture wrote:Weren't we promised early access?
I think the Founder's Program is for people who want to be involved even before there's any working game.
- 1. Founders Program begins (4Q2015). This will be access to our vault and a private forum where we can bounce ideas off those passionate, like us, about the Star Control reboot.
2. Founders Prototype (1Q2016): Founders under NDA will start to be able to give feedback and try out some of our tools and early prototypes of what we're working on to give feedback and suggestions.
3. Founders Alpha (2Q2016): Founders, under NDA, start getting Alpha builds.
4. Early Access (4Q2016).
5. 2017: 25th anniversary of Star Control 2.
