Yeah, watching that is sometimes a little painful. Dreadnoughts shouldn't be able to wipe out marauders by launching 4 fighters and waiting while the other player figures out the controls.

The level of play was rather respectable considering how new most of the competitors were. Nice job, guys. I definitely want to play against Gabe now. He's been in #uqm-arena a few times but I've always missed him or been too busy to interact on IRC much.

Thraddash afterburner can get the ship out of harm's way and it's weapon is moderate range, meaning the pilot will speed in, try to hit the opponent and speed away. This makes extremely long and boring battles both to participants and audience.

This is all true, but I'd like to emphasize that the Thraddash can beat many ships using this tactic, including the Chmmr. It is extremely tedious, but effective. Also, since the front weapon's velocity is based on the velocity of the ship, you can greatly improve the range of your front weapon by using the afterburner too.

Problem with that is that the person on the other side of the Internet link is liable to ragequit after about five minutes of that. Melee is supposed to be fun. 30-minute battles with an inevitable outcome are not fun.

That's why you need to play on the same keyboard as melee is intended. If the other side is constantly making the battle boring you can whack him/her in the head.

Quoted for truth.
