Going into Over 9000 mode to find a new job so I'm able to take care of my family.

Uf. Hopefully you're eligible for unemployment, because the job market is seriously unfriendly right now. Good luck.

Than you have no income untill you find new job and work for first paycheck.
I believe that Cedric referred to social security unemployment status.
In Israel it is three month unemployment status you are eligible for if you were fired after a year and a half of work. If you quit by yourself - you're on your own. You get monthly payment as your last monthly pay and they help you search for new job. After that - you're on your own. Very big help, actually.

Good luck to you and your family. These are hard times. We have over 600 guys/gals on the out of work list in my union. Even the old timers have never seen it quite this bad.

It's somewhat similar in the US; there's no public assistance to help find a job (that I'm aware of; thankfully I've never been on unemployment myself), and the benefits are adjusted based on your previous wage and number of dependents, but they extend them for (I think) a year and a half now because the economy is so far down the crapper.

Bummer. Don't worry about the statistics; there are jobs out there, just not as many. Also, you can always start a business if you've got the right skills.
