A planeswalker is a kind of wizard who can travel to other dimensions. Chandra is one who specializes in fire magic.

At least it used to be that if you play M:tG, you are playing as a planeswalker. Later, they added planeswalker cards, and I'm not sure of the narrative justification of that.

You're calling in a favour from them, they bring their own deck (which you don't get to see or get access to) and will help you out as long as you can keep them happy by making them do things they like doing. If you let them get hit a lot or tell them to do stuff they're not a fan of doing too much, they sod off.
