A Flower in the Night OOC

Post by Dabir »

Lads, lasses, Mods, Gods and godless. Today, I'm inviting you, yes you, to play a game. No surprises so far, I trust? This game's going to be a little different, however.

You see, this game is going to be played across two boards: the SCDB and one other board, which will remain unnamed for now. The only link between the boards? Me. Just to be sure, the game isn't even named the same between the two.

The way we're playing this game is a little different, too. Firstly, I'm not going to be starting the main thread, in either board. The first person on each board who has received an update and wants to kick things off can feel free. The main thread, you see, will contain exclusively the dialogue. Posts will be considered to be entirely in character, no quotation marks needed. All actions, description etc will be conveyed between myself and the players via PM. In-character thinking is to be kept to yourself, or the PMs.

At some points, I may ask you, the players, to describe things. If this happens, your description is to be as full as possible - if I ask you for your description of a door, say, don't start with a door assumed and go from there. Tell me how you know it's a door, what makes it a door rather than, to give another example, an elephant. Other rules? You'll find out as you go along.

If all goes well, we start on Monday. I will attempt to update with a new event every day or couple of days, though this may become irregular.

Of course, I have to know who's playing. If you want to play along, simply make a post in this topic that starts "Fade in" and I will provide you with updates. If you wish to drop out for any reason, whether temporarily or permanently, that's fine too - simply change "in" to "out" and continue. I've got no particular aversion to anyone editing posts.

One last note. If you have any pre-planned characters, with pre-planned physical or mental abilities, detailed backstories, complex potential for expansion and interaction - discard them at the door. You won't be needing them. Feel free to hang on to their personalities, but be aware that you won't be playing them, just someone who thinks the same.

Oh, and you might be wondering: Why is it called "A Flower In The Night"? I'm sure you'll be able to work out the reason as we play.

Fade in I guess? I'll have an SC character speaking in the thread. Once I know what to speak about. Do we need to keep chatracter identities secret (i.e no referring to racial specifics and so forth?)

Alvarin: You don't particularly need to keep up with this on a constant basis, it's more of a 'react to things as they come' game. Just fade in when you're playing and fade out when you're not.

It's quite simple. You can use a character's personality, but not the character themselves. So while I'd be fine with you acting in a manner obviously drawn from the Shofixti, you are not actually a Shofixti. What you are, that's anyone's guess, but it's probably human or human-shaped. If you want to keep it neutral when talking about racial specifics, just to be safe, you can do that too.

Okay. Also, when I intend to step it up a notch, can I use the term "Flame on!"?

Anyway, this sounds like the kind of low level dedication game this forum excels at.

Whatever you feel is appropriate, you may do. Anyone else want to show willing? You can of course join in after we've started, no problem with that, but it would be nice to have a few more people for the kickoff.

I am glad I'll be able to join in after the start, as I really love forum games. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to join before Wednesday night, as I'm going to reservist army service in 5 hours...

I'm really interested in the game taking place on two boards. Is this a competition between the two? How long does a game like this last? I'm set to go on vacation for two weeks in the near future.

Well, looks like this board is getting pretty active with its role-playing! Whatever the case, sounds fun, count me in.

Loadies and Gonts (and all you other people too I guess), we start today. Once you've received your first in-game PM from me, you have permission to start the dialogue topic assuming it isn't there already. And remember, ALL dialogue - including that aimed at, but not necessarily coming from, NPCs, goes in that topic. If it's aimed at NPCs, it would make my job a bit easier if you were to put it in the PMs too, but it's not necessary.

@RTyp06 It might last a while, though I can break it up into stages. Of course, could be over in a couple of weeks. Like I said, there's nothing especially important to the plot in a 'blink and you'll miss it' situation, and if we're still running once you get back you can ask an NPC questions. Hell, you can ask them questions before you leave.
