Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

I'm noticing a running theme in your selection of games there. :) FTL is the only one of those I currently have, and I've logged 578 hours into it, so it makes me curious to see how Into the Breach plays, since it's made by the same people. ItB is one I'd definitely like to record myself playing a ...

Ooh, I hadn't heard about Into the Breach yet, I might have to pick that up again. Fantastic game, especially if you're a tactics fan like me.

Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

I feel sympathy when someone is having a bad time with a game they're doing a let's play for, not catharsis. If you say you're done, I say you've more than earned it at this point. I have piles of games I could recommend going all the way back to the NES and DOS PCs. Just choose your platform and wh...

Admittedly that is cool. I always like to hear about artists and musicians from the small communities I frequent getting to work on big projects.

Way late, but congrats KWayne!

Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

An open letter to game devs: DLC is not mandatory to release. If you don't have any good ideas, don't half-ass it because your customers will notice. If your good ideas aren't working out, it's OK to keep refining them, save them for a sequel, or even just outright scrap them if they are going to dr...

Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

Uf. Sounds like the interns got assigned the DLC while the main team was reassigned to something else. Not an uncommon thing to see unfortunately, but it definitely damages the overall experience. If you're going to make filler DLC, maybe just don't? But if you are really dead set on it, at least tr...

Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

To be fair, that happened in SC2/UQM too. You get a few slide screens, and Talana tells you the Chmmr and the others mopped up both the Ur-Quan forces which fell into disarray.... Which I always found unbelievable, seeing how meticulous the Kzer-Za bureaucrats were. And the Kohr-Ah? They've been ba...

Re: Starting a blind playthrough of Star Control Origins (with videos! No spoilers, please)

I'm reminded of a video essay I watched not too long ago about Steven Moffat, who was the showrunner of Doctor Who for a while, as well as BBC's Sherlock, among other things. They said he's good at writing individual episodes, but not the best for running a whole series, because with him, everythin...

Re: Star Control Origins Discussion (potential spoilers)

Star Trek diplomacy at its finest, first contact with any alien is always whatever ship captain is available, even if they have a better option right on board the ship. It's a total crapshoot whether your captain will be Picard (who seemed to be at least able to take diplomacy seriously) or Kirk (wh...
